I am suppose to start dbt therapy today and its past 2 in the morning, I am not even tired, I have the note book and every thing ready to go, I know I am making up excuses in not going, I hate groups even though its a small group, It is going to be for 2 hours and then I meet with my psycologist every week also she is running the group along with some one else, It is a years commitment, I dont know why I am trying to put this off, I have heard nothing but good things about this, And how it has helped so many people, Can any one tell me if they have went and how it went for them, And did it help any of you

" Never done it myself, but I certainly qualify. I am currently in an ACT group through the VA. The syllabus uses a very similar dialect. (couldn't resist ^.°)

Everything in life resists change. An object at rest wants to stay at rest, etc., etc. That is especially true of life forms who have witnesses more negative change than positive change. Such as most of us on this board. Traumatized dogs in a dog pound, etc.

I sure hope you push yourself on this one, friend. It isn't about personal preference. It is about moving an object at rest to a new location. It is gonna hurt. Life willing, you will be enjoying a much better view this time next year. "

" I've been interested in trying DBT therapy, but I couldn't find a trained provider through my insurance. I'm going with a CBT therapist instead, which is still a method that I think will be beneficial to me. I wish you lots of luck. "

" I have been going to DBT for over a year now. Like you, my therapist and I meet for an hour after DBT each week and he is also one of the groups leaders. At first, I just didn't get it. It seemed to mostly be about calming your mind, relaxation techniques, and living in the moment and focusing on the things you can change and not all the things you can't. It tooks months for me to take the homework seriously and to put any of the knowledge from group into practice in my life. Now I use the knowledge and techniques without really being aware that I'm doing it. My group consists of about 6 of us. There is a range of people that have been doing the group for over 4 years to people that are brand new to it. I am in the group, and the others as well, mostly because we have a BPD diagnosis (among others) and its supposed to be good for BPD. Even 14 months later I still don't go to every class. Unlike other counseling centers, mine does not put a limit on the number of classes you can miss. Some weeks are hard for me and I search for excuses why I can't go, but most of the time I end up going. My long-winded answer to your question is that, yes, I find it helpful. It's not for everyone though. It sounds like its a good fit for you. It doesn't hurt to give it a try but do give it more that a month or two to really gage whether it's sinking in. Good luck! "

" You sound like you might be like me-I get REALLY anxious before I do anything-especially anything new. When I am actually doing the new thing I am better than I am when I am anticipating what is going to happen. I hope you are better today. "
