Advice:
How to get past nightmares?

I kinda scared myself last night.......I usually have pretty vivid intense nightmares connected to one trauma or other in my life, but last night was particulary bad.....Had a variation of the same nightmare six times, and even when my eyes weren't closed, it kept running in my mind...and I haven't been able to get it out of my head. I was wondering if anybody knew any strategies for dealing with nightmares connected to traumas?

" I know what your going through , once in a while I have horrific nightmares.but they will pass in time. Ive learned that some things going on during the day can trigger the nightmares at night. if you learn what the triggers are you can learn to deal with them.
Ive had to face my problems head on, the nightmares have eased some but I still have them. it hasent been easy, Im still working on why I have PTSD.I hope this helped. "

" I used minipress (prazosin) 2mg when the dreams were really bad... worked on the first night. No dreams.

As I have grown stronger, I am weening off of it... When I wasn't ready, the meds were there. Now that I am, time to let them go. "

" I am so sorry to hear you are going through this. I have suffered with this my whole life to where it effected my health. Now I am heavily medicated at night to sleep under a nurses supervision (my medicine). I used alcohol in my 20's and find I'm turning to it again to deal with my PTSD during the day. If it was me, I'd get some food or green aspirin and get in front of the tv for complete distraction. Good luck! May God grant you the rest you need. Amen "
