Dealing with verbally/abusive ex-boyfriend

Hi, the situation is quite nasty. My ex is nasty. Threatens me via email. I will have to go back to our mutually owned property to pickup my possessions. They may or may not be there. He had said at one point he was throwing them out. Problem is, any contact with him, throwns me into a PTSD tailspin. I am terrified of going up there. I know there will be panic attacks. The sherrif will only do a 15 minute stand by. How can I prepare for this. I must do it. Delay is bad, I know. But going now is terrifying. Any suggestions?
