I have felt bad on that prednisone for so long now that I have developed some very poor habits that I should be ashamed of but for some reason am not. I was just too darn sick to care and I guess if I'm caring, that must mean I'm improving. I know how I should eat, just haven't been nor have I been able to. I think the Nexium is helping and the reduction (prednisone)...

The pills I ordered on line that claimed to cure polycythemia, appears to be a scam :( They took my money and I never recieved anything...I will be reporting them and get my money back...On the positve side, I have gone 7 weeks now with good HCT counts, so no phlebotomies! Yea! And my platelets although way out in outer space high, are still under what my hemotologist says I will need that Chemo ...1 Recommendation -

I just got back from the long drive to Duke and while I'm very exhausted, I'm also a little elated. My sister ended up driving with mom, but I'll get to that in a minute. I get to start tapering the evil prednisone, yes!!!! Doc says that I'm just one of those people that feel worse on prednisone and will be an easier patient for them to get off of it. This is the third day in a month that I have not felt like I just wanted to lay in bed all day. Severe stomach pain, naseous, trembling, extreme muscle pain, my worst weakness, headaches, irratability, lack of apetite, heart racing, and the list goes on and on. Yay! Another week without a phebotomy! 5 weeks now! :) Praise the Lord! My counts were good again this week.(good as far as having polycythemia go*) My hct was up just a bit, but still within a good range. My platelets stayed exactly the same as last week. Although they are way high, they still are just under what my hemotologist considers safe to stay off the hydrea! Thank you Lord Jesus!1 Comment -

I am feeling good :) Just kinda living week to week now as Every monday I go in and anxiously wait after they take my blood draw, to get my print out of my counts. Last week my hct went DOWN from the week before, but my platelets keep slowing climbing up. I am on one baby aspirin a day plus the warfarin. That seems to be keeping things from clotting up. My weekly counts were good today :) The lab technician was surprized as the counts actually went down instead of steadly climbing up as they had been. She and I were both sure I would need a phlebotomy today. We were both happily surprized. She said "what ever your doing, keep doing it!" I haven't spent much time on the site because I'm too ill and I find myself not being able to relate to anyone else. I'm still waiting on this prednisone euphoria thing to kick in and it's been 3 weeks, no euphoria; just a lot of pain weakness and irratibility. 60 mg is a lot of prednisone!!! I am feeling very blessed and happy today. My doctor surprized me with saying that he didn't think I needed to get on the chemo drug, hydrea, at this time! I don't know for the future, but not going to think about that now. Living in the happy moment of now! I credit the many prayers for me for this wonderful surprize. God is Good!! Getting ready to go find out my weekly INR-protime to make sure my coumadin dose is where it should be. Feeling hopeful still about finding a cure for my polycythemia. Tomorrow I go to my hemotologist, I am sure he will want to put me on the chemo drug hydrea. My primary doctor has already called me and told me I need to get on it as my platelets are over a million. I am going to see if it is ok ... -

Polycythemia Information
Polycythemia is a condition in which there is a net increase in the total circulating erythrocyte (red blood cell) mass of the body. There are several types of polycythemia. Primary polycythemia, often called polycythemia vera (PCV), polycythemia rubra vera (PRV), erythremia, or just PV, occurs when excess erythrocytes are produced as a result of a proliferative abnormality of the bone marrow.
Secondary polycythemia is caused by either appropriate or inappropriate increases in the production of erythropoietin that result in an increased production of erythrocytes.
Relative polycythemia is an apparent rise of the erythrocyte level in the blood; however, the underlying cause is reduced blood plasma.
