I am in need of some encouragement. I am 30 years old and was just diagnosed with PCOS this past Tuesday (11/3). I have had all of these problems since my cycles started when I was 11. They have gotten much worse over the past 9 years and I have been searching for the past 9 years for someone to help me. I am thankful that I finally found a doctor that would actually give me a name for what is wrong with me. I started on Metformin 500mg/day and will be working my way up to 2000mg/day. I have had to use Provera and Clomid to conceive both of my children (my first was stillborn at 20 wks gestation) and my periods are extremely irregular. There are times that I have gone 6 months w/o a period and then when I do have one, there have been times it has lasted for up to 2 months. For some reason, at this time, it seems like everyone around me had either just had a baby or just found out they are pregnant. I'm wondering...has anyone had similar situations...difficulty conceiving and extremely irregular periods? And if you have...did the Metformin help with having regular cycles and conceiving? I'm just getting down again...and I don't want to do that. I want to hold onto that great feeling I had of finally knowing what was wrong with me and FINALLY taking a step forward....but I feel like I'm losing that and this terrible sad feeling is coming back again..... :(

" I take 1000mg a day of metformin and have for the past 3 years. My cycles are still no where near regulated and like you can go for over 6 months without having one. A few weeks ago I asked my doctor if we could up my dosage of metformin to try and regulate a cycle. She said no. My blood work is fine, my insulin level is good, my cysts are under control and so she sees no reason to up my dosage. I don't have the weight problem I know many face with PCOS and I know when you that as a symptom it seems many people who loose some weight start having their cycles. So I am lost as to what to try next.

She then gave me provera to try and have a cycle so I could start clomid for the first time but it was no successful. So now were playing the waiting game. I am having a day similar to you where I am just feeling very negative about everything and ready to give up.

I know things have to get better. There has to be a light at the end of each of our tunnels I just dont see my light yet :(
Good luck with everything and I hope you start feeling better about your situation. Unfortunately when you are diagnosed with something such as PCOS it is out of your hands for the most part so try not to worry to much and have faith your doctor is doing everything possible to make things right. When you loose that faith I feel thats when its time to find a new doctor which it seems you don't have that problem because you have finally found a doctor who will actually diagnose you so you seem to be making progress!
