I have had a heightened sense of smell since I started taking Metformin. It is driving me crazy! I cant stand the way food, parfume, potpori and other things smell. Did any one else have this? It almost feels like i am preggers again, but w/o the sore boobs. Already took a pregnancy test, but it was negative. Any suggestions?

" I think that has happened to me too! I also couldn't stand the taste of a lot of food that I usually enjoy! It seems to happen when I increase my dosage then things seem to go to regular. "

" When I was taking the Met I experienced a lot of the early pregnancy symptoms off and on. Drove me crazy b/c I never knew if it was from an actual pregnancy or just from the Met! After awhile it was making me sick as well so I stopped taking it. "

" I am wondering if I am experiencing he same issues due to Metformin. I started it about 2 years ago, which is the same time that I began smelling some things that others did not smell. The problem is that it is now unbearable. I smell a sweet chemically type smell that I can't get rid of and it makes me sick. I've taken tons of pregnancy tests, hoping that would explain the heightened sense of smell, but all are negative.

Does anyone know if the smells stop when metformin is discontinued? "

" Hmmm I have often wondered why I sometimes get a "stale" or "metallic" like smell in my nose at times, can anyone relate?? I dont know if its related to Metformin, or just a weird nose or taste in my mouth!?? "

" Yes I googled Metformin a long time ago and it does cause a metallic taste and smell, maybe that is why it causes weight loss or they say it does. I have PCOS and diabetes "
