How to Make Your Period Come (Serious or Not!) :)

I haven't had a period since April 23 and I'm pretty nervous about it. Usually I joke that Aunt Flo is fond of "taking the summer off," but it's been nearly 4 months and she's not usually away for THIS long!
The last time I went for a super-duper long time without a period (this was maybe 5 years ago), my former gynecologist gave me Provera, which essentially turned me into an insane person. I have since found out that I have porphyria, which makes me very sensitive to hormone changes. So I'm thinking that I need to figure out another way -- hopefully NOT involving the induction of synthetic hormones -- to coax Aunt Flo into showing up around here! Ideas that I have tried in the past... Parsley. I have read that parsley stimulates the uterus, and will sometimes induce light contractions which may help matters. (I think this *might* have worked once or twice for me, thought the last time was not successful.) Vitamin C. Ditto, but it made my stomach a wreck, so not going there again. Black/Blue Cohosh. I've tried this, but not much success. Now I'm worried about using it because I'm not sure if it'll induce a porphyria attack. Wearing White Underwear/Pants & Going Without a Pad/Tampon. This has worked like a charm for me many times! Unfortunately, it hasn't been helping as of late. Crunches. These have also helped me before, but aren't currently working. Orgasms. Another thing that has helped me in the past, but hasn't done much lately. Being Around Other Women. I have never noticed any effects, but I since I work at home, I have gone weeks without seeing any other people besides my husband. So I have no real way of knowing. ... So what kinds of things does everyone else try when they're hoping to get Aunt Flo to arrive? I don't care if it's a serious thing or a silly thing, I'd try anything at all at this point. I hope that you ladies will post some suggestions or ideas... or even stories about stuff that DOESN'T work! Let's exchange some good information and/or laughs! :) Posted on 08/10/09, 01:08 am |

I have PCOS and usually have a period every month. However, when I was on antipsychotic drugs I didn't have periods. When I stopped the meds, they came back. I got tested for all kinds of things, and my doctor told me it wasn't a side effect of the meds. However, for me it was.

MoonBunny, if you are looking to achieve ovulation you could try inositol for lowering of testosterone levels. It is said to help reduce triglycerides and blood pressure, and improve insulin sensitivity.
Of natural herbs, did you try Chaste Berry (angus castus) or Tribulus? Both are said to decrease elevated hormones and help restore menstrual regularity. Hope the above helps :)

I have about two periods a year. I have been reading about the affects of not having a period and how it can increase your risk of developing cancer. I was thinking of speaking to my doc about this. I can not go on the pill as this just send my blood pressure through the roof.

I was waiting to see if someone would put Vitex/Chasteberry on there and finally, miapigpen did. I have been diagnosed with PCOS since I was a teenager and am now 33. The only thing (aside from BCPs) that I have found to help me force a period is Vitex. I read about it on here and started doing my own research. It's been used for centuries by Europeans to help progesterone levels. Girls on here said it helped them-some within days, some a month later. I started taking it in October, and as of the end of last week, AF is making an appearance. I thought the Vitex wasn't going to work, but it just took a couple more weeks for me. The directions say it can take up to 6 months to induce a period. And you can take one or two a day. I have just started taking 2 a day and I think my body needs that. Anyway, try Solaray brand Vitex. Some of them aren't as potent but this is a good brand. And the whole weight thing is so true...unfortunate, but true. Good luck!
