Hi everyone,
heres my situation... Ive always had an irregular period, i had an ovarian cyst removed 4 years ago. Since i stopped the pill, my period is now non-exsistant. I havent had my period in 7 months (which is when i stopped the pill) My boyfriend and i are trying to conceive, and it is not working. Ive been to the hospital twice this year due to sharp ovary pain, and they just diagnosed me with PCOS... I have read alot online about it, but ive been hearing all kinds of different symptoms and stories. I am so scared i will not be able to have children. Even though i try not to think about it, i cant get this off my mind. I do not currently have health insurance, so i can not go to a regular doctor/ obgyn, im stuck going to a clinic with student doctors, and most of them are non helpful = / I know i need to get my period, but i need another option besides the pill if i want to get pregnant... any advice is appriciated! thank you in advance. Welcome to the group. There is definitely a possibility to conceive with PCOS...meds will help you ovulate and get on a regular cycle. I take Spironolactony 2xs a day 50mg.

Welcome to the group! First, let me say that PCOS effects each woman differently so don't be too stressed by everything you read on the internet! Your symptoms could be manifest completely differently than the things you read. Also, it's very positive to conceive with PCOS.
For me my only PCOS symptoms are the cyst on my ovaries, irregulaer periods (about one every 9 months when not assisted by medication), and the related infertility. I am overweight, but I'm not sure if that's a symptom or a contributing factor. I don't have any of the insulin resistance, hair growth, mood swings, etc. Once I got off the pill (because my husband and I were trying to have a baby), i promptly stopped having periods. After about 9 months of that my doctor put me on metroforming (1500mgs) to help regulated my cycle. That took about 5 months and then we kept at it to monitor that it was actually working for about 3 more months. Once we were confident I started Clomid (100mg) and got pregnant on my first round! I'm now 37 weeks pregnant with my first child and very excited. Long story short; you may need medicinal intervention and it may take a little longer than it does for some women, but it is totally possible to get pregnant with PCOS. Good luck with your process and stay positive. The info on the internet and some people's experiences can sound terifying, but let your body define PCOS for you, each case can be different.

Thank you all for your advice!
mrsvg: Congrats! and good luck! =) I have my next dr. appt next week, so hopefully they will do something helpful this time. I have been reading about Clomid, it sounds less harsh than spironolactone. I dont have too much of a hair growth problem, my issues are ovarian cysts, the current one is 3.5 cm... I was on the pill for 6 months, and one i stopped taking it, the periods stopped with it = / i havent had a period since december.

Hun it is totally possible 2 get pregnant with pcos, with or without meds. I was taking dianette 2 combat the symptoms bt came off it and we started ttc. We never thort it was gonna happen, but low and behold, after 3 years of trying I fell pregnant and 7 weeks ago I gave birth 2 my gorgeous baby girl. I had taken no meds 2 increase my fertility, I got pregnant by the grace of god! She my little miracle. So it just goes 2 show that anything is possible! I was told by my doc that it wud never happen, but my baby is here! Shes living proof that pcos doesnt always have 2 mean that u wont have kids xxx

I took metformin (helps to regulate insulin, and a lot of women with pcos have insulin resistance...so if you do, this might be an option for you...) and it worked wonders for me. It does cause stomach issues with some people but if you can withstand the issues, the outcome can be great (it was for me). It gave me my period back AND I got pregnant on it. I was so worried about not being able to have chidren too! Don't let anyone tell you that you can't! Good luck with everything!
