I stopped in Wal-Mart last night after work to grab a few things before going home. Well I get all the way to the back of the store to get a gallon of milk and the sudden urge to go hits me. Lucky for me the restrooms are right by the milk cooler, right. WRONG! That stupid mean janitor guy was cleaning them and would not let me in even for a quick go. I tried begging and reasoning with this man but he so unreasonable. In the end he told me I'd have to walk to the front of the store to use those restrooms.
Fine so I'm doing my best to make it to the front restrooms before going on myself. I get to the restrooms just in time to see this crazy long line out of the ladies room. Of course there's a line when you have to go go go due to stupid Metformin. In the end I couldn't hold it any longer and it was completely out of my control. All I could do was hold my head high buy a change of clothes, some soap, and washcloths. Clean myslef up and change in the restroom that was suddenly totally empty. Then finish my shopping so I wouldn't have make a mad dash to the store in the morning for milk and diapers. Like PCOS isn't bad enough, we have to take meds that causes us to go 500,000 times a day without much notice. Made worse by a supercenter's need to lock up a set of restrooms at exactly 9:00 pm. The whole store is open all night, but not these restrooms. It's crazy, or I'm crazy for cleaning up and then finishing my shopping. Posted on 06/09/09, 12:06 pm |

I'm so sorry to hear you had to go through that! I've been lucky enough not to have symptoms that were that bad, but on the occasions it does hit me, I find that taking Immodium helps. I always have some in my purse or the car (among other things) just in case. I don't know if it would help you, but it couldn't hurt, right? Hopefully you won't have any more embarrassing moments like this one while you're on the medication! Blessings!

I had a similar thing happen to me as well. It taught me to go as soon as I feel it not waiting like I used to do until I could wait no more. I was so embarassed. I had to go home after lunch and change my clothes. Thank goodness we don't live far from work. I can so feel your pain. XO :)

I was just upped from 850mg twice a day to 1000mg twice a day. I know it's not a big jump but it's enough apparently to make everything all nuts. I'm just glad I was in a place where I could buy a change of clothes and clean up.

Oh that is terrible! I am so sorry. Are you taking the extended release metformin? I started those about 3 weeks ago and so far so good. No bad side affects. If you are not taking that kind, maybe you should ask you doctor or pharmacist about switching. My RE said that you have less side affects with the extended release kind. Good luck!

I have the extended release and that helps but i have also found that taking them with a fair amount of food and even in the evening, i don't have as much trouble. Watching what you eat helps, fast foods intensify the need to poo. I have it worse since i had my gall bladder removed and fast food just kills me. Keep imodium on hand and at the first sign of a "cramp" run to the bathroom. It isn't much fun but the whole thing isn't much fun.

As someone who suffers from IBS, I sympathize completely. IT is completely embarassing and most people don't seem to understand. I have the problems at work and have trouble keeping my head up and looking at people. I feel like I'm always being judged. I have had accidents at work and run home mortified. I hope you can find a way to control it because it is mentally exhausting to have to worry about that all the time.

I'm not on the extended release for insurance reasons. My insurance will only pay for a 21 day supply twice at a retail pharmacy. If I want a full 30 day supply I MUST use their mail order pharmacy, which is more frustraing than having an itch in places you can't reach to scratch. The mail order pharmacy has a 14 day verification wait, then it's another 14 to 16 days for your meds to arrive. That's only IF everything checks out. I've been waiting over three months for the only and only prescription I will ever ask them to fill, I have yet to find out what the problem is. I just know it's been pending for three months.
So to remedy all that drama I use Wal-Mart and get the $4 meds. The extended release isn't on the list, so I've got to stick with regular kind. I work as a CNA so I'm kind of numb to bathroom accidents of any kind in people of all ages. I mean it went in therefore it must come out. Everybody poops, there's a book that proves it. While I was embarassed I wasn't mortified, it just happens. The worst part of it all was that I was in my work uniform which is a navy blue scrub top with white scrub pants, and the pants I had on were BRAND NEW. It was more painful to throw away those pants than it was to explain to the cashier why I had to change then pay for the clothes. Ahh well it's over now and so far no more accidents. My husband got a good laugh out it, after he apologized and acted concerned. I go the dr next week, I can't wait to tell her about this. It's going to be funny just to watch her face. She's so flippen ditzy sometimes, but she's the best dr I've ever had. During my last yearly exam she stops right in the middle of the breast exam and says, "Hey check it out, I got my eyeliner tattooed on." Then closes her eyes so I can see. Then just goes back to what she was doing like it was nothing. We both got a giggle out of it. She was like, it's just a girl thing. You have a thought and must say it right then no matter what you're doing.

First, I am on the extended release and get mine at Walmart and I think it is $9 for a 90 day supply (1500 mg daily). don't know if every walmart is different but I know mine covers the extended release. Double check. Second, Oxyclean or Spray and wash with resolve works awesome to get out stains, including poo. I have gotten lots of things of my son's clean that i never thought i would. Until you get things stabilized maybe you should buy 2 pairs of each scrub to have as back up at work or in car incase of accident, or maybe wear pads/panty liners. Not that that wouldn't suck but maybe it would help from having to change clothes.

METFORMIN 500MG ER TAB* 60 180 i just looked up the Walmart pharmacy and copied and pasted it listing Metformin extended release; So your pharmacy is wrong. It is covered. Though could be up to $10 depending on how many you take a day. You could also go to Bristol-myers and get the meds thru them directly. You fill out a application,, send the script and they will mail your meds to you for up to 3 months at a time. I did it before and it was nice (and was free cuz based on income, at the time anyway)
