I haven't had much trouble with sleep but some of the books i have read have said that women with PCOS have a tendency or higher chance (sorry can't remember which it was) to have sleep apnea which can cause difficulty with getting good sleep...maybe you should talk to your doctor. Disrupted sleep can effect your weight, and a list of other health issues...
Good luck :)

In my personal experience, yes. Sleep is precious and little! I find that I get the least amount of sleep, or restful sleep when I'm not eating well. Before and for the first few months after being diagnosed I had crazy insomnia. I tried everything I could think of (other than sleeping pills) to try and doze off, but nothing helped.
What made the biggest difference for me was proper diet and regular exercise. Once I got into a good balance, eating low GI foods and such, I found it I was sleeping better and even if I only got 5-6 hours, it was more restful than I had seen in months. Unfortunately, in light of a recent pulmonary embolism, I've since slipped back into old habbits and lately have not been sleeping well again. I don't know if you're on a low GI diet or anything like that, but there are lots of wonderful books and resources on how to manage your symptoms through diet. It may help, couldn't hurt to try! Hope this helps :)

Actually, I have trouble sleeping. I kind of just attributed it to my crazy work schedule and back pain from an accident - but never PCOS. However, I wonder if it is a PCOS symptom...hmmm

Yes!! I have a hard time sleeping. I have a hard time turning my brain off. I think too much about all sorts of things and it keeps me up. Lately I don't go to bed between midnight and 1am. I seem to sleep okay when I finally fall asleep, but who really knows if its quality sleep. I feel tired all the time!!! I recently had a home sleep test done at Kaiser, and I have to go back tuesday to discuss results and get recommendations from a specialist. Apparently they found something...I'm nervous to hear what they found. I've been reading that some people with pcos have sleep apnea. Have you been tested for that? I think that's what they are going to tell me I have. If nothing else, talk to your doctor and see what they recommend. When I did that I told her I snore and have trouble sleeping and she told me to make a appointment with the sleep clinic. That's where I'm at now and hoping to get some answers. I hope that helps some and good luck with it. If you ever want to chat more I'd be happy too.

I find it helpful to do some hardcore exercising in the evening. I don't do it right before bed but a few hours before. Not only do I wear myself out, but it helps me clear my head. Whether I realize it or not, I usually stay up because I'm thinking about stuff and just can't relax.

Also, never discredit the fact that our hormones are off. That just messes up EVERYTHING.
