it is PKD or am I just sick?

I have been feeling mildly nauseated for about 3 days straight. I haven't vomited but I have wanted to...especially in the middle of the night. I am also feeling just a little bit achy. I can't tell if this is a litle "bug" or if it is the "next step" in kidney fialure. My GFR is about 15...or at least it was a month and a half ago. Is it likely for my nausea to be PKD related with this much function? I figured I'd have to be down to about 10 before I would feel these symptoms.

Thanks for any words of wisdom!

" I get like that all the time and my kidneys are functioning at 100%. My doctors said it's just a symptom. I call it "morning sickness" feeling. I've never been pregnant but my enlarged kidneys make me feel like it a lot. Mint tea always helps me with my nausea. Maybe you could try it too.

It's hard trying to figure out what's going on since this disease affects everyone differently.

I think throwing up is better than the "I feel like throwing up" feeling but it's just something I've had to get used to.

I hope you can find some relief and if it's really concerning you just ask your doctor about it. "

" Thanks, Djenn.

I still am unsure about the nausea but I had a bout of flu like chills earlier so I think I am actually sick! I am hoping that's why the nausea is so ever-present but only time will tell. "

" achiness and nausea could be a lot of things, including the flu. did you get a shot? you can even get a milder flu after a shot.
those symptoms can also be related to PKD tho general achiness may not be part of it. PKD pain is more kidney related.
you didn't mention fever so I guess you don't have one but if it happens get on the phone with your doctor.
you are at a point in your PKD where you won't feel as well as you used to. your blood is becoming more toxic and that doesn't feel good.
wondering if you had labwork done recently, that can give a lot of information.
I know you are scheduled for a nephrectomy soon, whats going on with that? "

" I am 23% function and I get nauseous all the time and most of the time it's out of now where and only last a few hours. My docs have attributed it to my renal failure. Before my nephrectomy, I thought it was from my left kidney squishing my stomach, but the kidney's gone and I still get it! I will try the mint tea that Jenn suggested, I have some but didn't even think about drinking it! Decreased renal function affects each of us differently. I know people with a function of 7 who feel better than I do and I know people with a 47 function that feel worse than I do. It's so patient specific. Give your doc a call and get a check up just in case it's a stomach virus or something going around. The nausea sucks now, but you don't want it to progress into vomiting and end up dehydrated. Not good on the ol' kidneys.
Hope you are feeling better soon.

" Thanks everybody. I think that the achiness was due to a mild flu (I had a shot for the reglaur flu but not H1N1 as it was not yet avikailable). But the nausea seems here to stay. It is not really severe but it is frequent.

I'll be going to the nephrologist in 2 weeks so I'll get updated labs. I am expecting to have the nephrectomy and transplant as soon as a donor is identified.

I can't tell you all how helpful it is to have a place like this where people are so knowledgable and helpful. "

" Momwpkd,

*hugs* I'm sorry that you're being accused of that.

I had similar things happen with friends and even family members who HAVE the disease. Because they don't feel pain like I do and because they aren't showing symptoms they accused me of making it up or exaggerating.

It was very difficult especially when I started having seizures and for whatever reason I can't seem to gain any weight and lost about 20 lbs since my kidneys grew larger. I have "friends" spreading rumors that I'm recovering from some type of drug addiction and that is why I look the way I do and why I'm mostly wheelchair bound when it comes to going to public places. (I can't walk very far without getting really tired or dizzy)

Sometimes I think people just do that because it's their way of dealing with it. Like, it can't be real....so and so can't be sick...it's probably nothing. And the worst one ever, "it's all in their head".

Yes there is a possibility of having diverticulitis and if it's a concern of yours, don't hesitate to talk to your doctor about it.

I hope you find ways of dealing with it and maybe it's not a bad idea to have your husband check out some PKD stories :) Everyone goes through it differently and maybe he's having trouble understanding it because he doesn't go through it himself. "
