Hi all~ I have a question and hopefully some of you have an answer!I have PKD and get chronic kidney stones. I went in and had some of my bigger cyst drained on sept.14th which the radiologist was surprised that every cyst drained except one was filled with blood? They were asking if i had gotten hit or fell or taking asprin etc. Which no none of those happened. Anyhow after leaving and heading home i started to have symptoms of a UTI and realized i was peeing blood which i called my kid. dr and they said it was fairly normal to pee blood a little after the draining especially because they were filled with blood. Well so off and on i have been having discomfort and went to my regular physician and he took urine sample and cultured it. He said that i had some small amounts of leukocytes in my urine and blood. I am still having bladder fullness and pain in pelvic area and was peeing alot so thought 4 sure it was bladder infection well then my dr sent me to my urologist which he said it was possible that when the cyst were drained it gave room for the 3 kidney stones that i have to move and he thought thats what the prob was ,so he put me on flomax which did not help and so i still have this pain in my groin or pelvic area that comes and goes and sometimes its so intense just stabbing pains then i will be fine. My ??? is has nyone had a stone stuck in there bladder or uretha and just had what im experiencing cuz it comes and goes and yesterday i actually threw up from it i dont have much back pain from it or flank pain so just wanted to know if anyone has had this where its just sitting in bladder and when it moves maybe that is what is causing this? I will be laying in bed fine and then all of a sudden get these stabbing pains... My urine culture came back clean and clear of any bacteria..

I've never had a kidney stone, to my knowledge, tho there were some unexplained kidney problems that caused pain. I know from people who had them they can be very painful and cause illness, including nausea.
the good news is your urine is clear, one less thing to be concerned about. wish I could offer help but just don't know enough about stones. I do know about peeing blood and it all seems related to your surgery. hope healing comes soon, this is not fun for you.

I've had kidney stones a couple of times, but never passed them, the uriologist has always gone up to get the ones he's concerned would cause problems. My pain has always been in my kidney so no help there. My question is, if they think you might be passing a stone, why don't they do a CT scan to find out where it is, give you a urine strainer so you can check after each time you pee to see if it came out and put you on some pain medicine? These are the things I'd be asking my neph. In my experience, most nephs don't like letting their patients with PKD mess around with a possible stone. The priority is to protect your kidneys and a stone blocking the flow of urine can be really bad on your kidney, over time. If your're still having the pain, I'd call the neph and ask for a CT scan to see if the stone is blocking your urine flow out of the kidney or to your bladder.
Take care and good luck. Tami

I pass kidney stones pretty frequently.
My doctors had suggested some diet changes and I made them and still had them. They're usually pretty tiny and sometimes it's hard to decipher whether or not I'm having cyst pain or if stones are moving. What works for me though is an herb called a cleaver. You make a tea out of it (it's not the best tasting but if you add some mint it masks it pretty well). Drinking at least one cup a day has made my kidney stones easier to pass and I'm getting them less frequently. I remember my doctor said kidney stones only hurt when they move. It's just one of those things I guess. I hope they figure out what is causing your pain and maybe it's just after pain from the cyst drainage? Have they ruled that out?

Thanks everyone!! The reason they are not doing a CT scan is becuase they worry that i have had too many of them! I did just have ultrasound when they did the cyst draining and everything looked fine then.

I went to the ER last night with severe kidney pain. I thought it was a cyst rupture but they found a 4-mm stone in the CT-scan instead. They sent me home with vicadin and flomax. The pain has not returned but I am still a little sore. This is my first real stone and I am not sure if they always pass or not, or if this thing is just going to sit in there and grow and stab me occasionally when it moves. Any of you have experience with passing moderate-sized stones?
