haven't got a clear picture of a PKD's daily salt allowence. have been trying to keep mine under 1000, generally do pretty well with it. today I pushed it a little with 4 slices of 12 grain bread, but still didn't max out (170mg salt per slice). still, it would be good to know what limits we should follow. I did find that normal people shouldn't have more than 2300-2400mgs. since I'm getting the mushroom treatment from my doctors, (kept in the dark and fed...) and I'm tired of stressing out over it, I'm taking care of myself. seem to be ok, but time will tell.

" unfortunately I've been that route. useless. they don't know what to do with me. I went to Valley Immediate Care last time. cost me $45 to learn nothing. and they did a good work up, really looked me over. nothing there. that is, nothing they could find.
wonder, the two times this has happened, I've had my back pressed hard-first time was by my doctor, doing a manipulation to see how advanced my kidney expansion was. last night, my cat got behind me and shoved with his feet, on my lower ribs, and it hurt. a lot. but only while he was pushing. bruising? burst cyst? agravated kidney? don't know. but it sure makes me feel ill.
so this is why I asked what you do to get your bp up when this happens. had forgot to mention it.
anyway, I took a thyroid pill and I've improved slightly. will see how I feel after dinner, and probably will not take bp meds. but this takes time to get over. if I knew what to do to bring the bp and or energy back up, it would lilikely shorten the duration.
while I'm at it, I know kidney's don't handle beef well. how are they with pork? I had a cutlet last night, haven't had pork in some time. just checking all possible triggers.
pity the doctors can't figure me out, and I think my husband has already had his fill of my problems. at least for now. "

" found this site, we should all visit it. it answers some of the salt limitation questions that originated this thread, and has a lot of low sodium/no salt recipes. and I was right, I sometimes still eat too much salt.

" I hope you are feeling better. I hate to think you are obsessing over the amount of salt you are taking in and blaming that for problems that need medical attention.
if you avoid adding salt to food and avoid processed foods you are doing what you need to. anything more than that may be overkill and may do you more harm than good.
keep in mind, you NEED sodium. too little can be harmful.
you also need a doctor to prescribe labwork so you know what your function is. let us know what you learn. "

" everything I've read says 1200 is optimum for kidney disease. so if I'm doing that, then I should be ok, I hope.
next labs are on the 7th, no-one is concerned enough to give me them this month. go figure. but I have another set on the 23rd of December. well, I'm not sure anyone knows what the heck they're doing, or really gives a damn. not here where we are supposed to have some of the best doctors and hospitals. sheesh.
I feel somewhat better, this morning, still a little achy and muscles are slightly weak, a little wobbly. the rest has faided to either very mild or gone. took my vitamins but not the bp pill, last night, bp is 107/75 this morning. will try to talk to the endro. today. no use talking to the renal. if they'd care, I wouldn't stress so much.
