Not recovering from Pleurisy

Hi,

I'm new to the group. I was diagnosed with pleurisy at the end of January 09. I was in terrible pain and off work until early March 09. However, I still haven't recovered properly. I'm yet to do a full week at work as I've had loads of odd days off due to chest pain and generally feeling awful. I start to feel better, but then I do a little too much, like going out for the day or walking round the shops, and then I'm in a terrible state again. My doctor has finally agreed that I probably shouldn't still be in this much pain and has sent me for another chest xray - still awaiting results. My employers are getting really fed up with this now and, as redundancies are in the air at the moment, I really don't want to aggravate them. Does anyone know whether this is normal?

" I started having pleurisy in March 2008 and its been persistent (on,off, mild, severe) for the past 14 months. I have discovered that alcohol somehow makes it worse (not sure what the connection is) as does lifting heavy stuff. "

" I'm not sure what the etiology of mine is, but I've been having it off-&-on since February of 2007. I can't seem to get over it this time. I'm going back to my rheumatologist on Monday to see what she suggests...as I'm almost through with this round of Prednisone, & STILL NO RELIEF!!!

" If it continues you may want to look into disability. I am on permanent disability due to my chronic pleurisy. I would be calling in sick to work 3-5 times a month at least if I were working. Some days I wake up and the pain is horrendous. I am sorry you are struggling with this as well. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. "

" I've had pleuricy since November 2008, and even after a month-long round of antibiotics, still not better. I am having a Ct scan on my lungs on the 14, hopefully something will come of it. "

" Pleurisy hit at the worst time for me. I was a gymnastics instructor at the time and was told I could not life more than three pounds. The doctor told me the severe pain would last between 3 days and one month. It last for months and I eventually had to leave my job. I've attempted working one job since then and the stress it put on my body was no bueno, I quit after three months.

My mother, other family members and I think it's time I apply for SSI/SSDI. Aside from pleurisy I deal with Ulcerative Colitis, Asthma and Endometriosis. My mother thinks that since my husband is in the army, I won't qualify. Any thoughts on that? Any advice for applying? What is the process like?? "
