Reoccuring Pleurisy

For the last 3 years I have been battling pleurisy. I have had every kind of blood test, x-ray, and scans imaginable and everything has come back negative. My doctor and many other doctors at the Cleveland Clinic tell me it is idiopathic pleurisy- which means there is no underlining cause to treat, so they just treat the pleurisy. The problem is that it is reoccurring; I get it 3 to 4 times a year. It typically appears when the weather changes suddenly, and is much worse in the cold. It is extremely painful always on the left side, sometimes left shoulder and back, unable to lay flat, breathing very difficult. I lay propped up on the couch all day and try not to move around to much, as the pain gets worse to more I move. Heat has helped. At this point I am just aggravated that no one can find a resolution for this.

" I'm not sure what the etiology of mine is either, but I've been having it off-&-on since February of 2007. I can't seem to get over it this time. I'm going back to my rheumatologist on Monday to see what she suggests...as I'm almost through with this round of Prednisone, & STILL NO RELIEF!!! I'm diagnosed with Fibromyalgia & I'm wondering if it's connected to the Fibro in any way?

" I have chronic pleurisy & was informed by my family Dr. that the shoulder pain is referred pain as the inflammed pleural lining is pushing up against the diaphragm (sp?). Not that this helps any...but at least I understand it a bit more.

I've also noticed increased pain when the humidity rises, the ozone particulates are high, and my stress level is off the charts. "

" Hi, new here but not to pleurisy. Been dealing with it off and on since December 2007 and it has recently hit me hard, full force. The doctor's have no answers. They give me a handful of vicodin and that "I'm sorry I can't help you" look. I'll be having a chest ct scan on Wednesday and I'm hoping for answers! What sort of doctor's have yall seen so far???

@snausages22 - How did your ct scan go?? "
