My abuser and I just started psychotherapy last week. I was wondering if anyone else has been through this process, and if so, what was the outcome?

Do you mean you're in
therapy TOGETHER or individually? Individually, therapy (with the right therapist), can be ENORMOUSLY VALUABLE. . . . . for the TARGET of abuse. . . NOT for the abuser. If you're actually seeing someone TOGETHER. . . . . the you'll find the results of that endeavor may not be helpful for you, in either the short or long-term. I'll bump the thread on that.

it depends how much the relationship means to both of you. my husb went to therapy, made fools of all of them with his inasants, and had my character chalanged, won't go to therapy again, therapist are the most stupid people. My so called therapist told me I cut up my own coat (he did that)...it would be better talking to a good friend.

I agree with what Ilene said. Individual therapy helped me ENORMOUSLY. Joint therapy with my abuser was worse than useless.
