Discussion:
About Cults

A while back someone was asking about cults so I thought I would post what I have learned, most of it from the Rick Ross site. I have personal reasons for having an interest in learning baout cults, that i'm not willing to go into online but I think since they operate very much like our individual abusers whose main objective is control that it would be good to discuss it.
This is my interpretation....
Cults don't go out and kidnap their members, they lure them. They entice them with promises of being "special' or 'chosen." They make promises of teaching them special abilities and powers. Initially they do what is referred to as love bombing where their new recruit is praised and shown much approval and affection. That is followed with learning the language, the "speak" then through repetiion the recruit is in effect brainwashed into adopting their beliefs as well as their lingo. Sometimes drugs are given but most of the time it's more of psychological maneuvering and manipulation that is used to convince the recruit to adopt their beliefs. When the recruit or initiate steps out of line and questions their ultimate authority, fear tactics are used to put them in their place and back on track.

" I agree.

I would add that they
lure the most vulnerable.

They look for people who
appear to be disoriented
or feel they have no roots
or grounding.

This is the same as most
predators.

Cults and predators
target the vulnerable.

They appear, at first,
to throw them a lifeline.

Once reeled in, their
real agenda, of
MANIPULATION and CONTROL,
is revealed. "

" To continue...
I don't agree with Rick Ross that cults revolve around one leader, i think it can be a group or even a large group with a hierarchy where new recruits are unaware of the true intent and purpose of the group. That always remains hidden or at least elusive except for those at the top. Not all cults are religious but are willing to use religion as a means of control. Choosing to join a cult can be the result of family tradition or expectations or as the result of desperation in seeking out friendship or approval. Anyone can be lured. and duped. All cults are deceptive. very much like our abusers the way they are in the beginning is just an act. Cults will isolate their members if possible and they are threatened by outsiders who attempt to investigate them or who doubt their practices. Some cults objective is money as well as power and will make promises to their new members of social status or business connections. They can take on the appearance of an inoccuous 'club' whose members have 'good intentions" and who are charitable and socially conscious. They come to believe in their own superiority and that the means justify the ends. "

" I think we were posting at the same time llene. I wasn't trying to sound rude or ignore your reply , I just didn't see it until after i posted my last reply.
But I just want to say not all recruits are desperate or vulnerable, some think they are joining a social club, depending on the cult in question. there are a few more things I don't agree with rick ross about. He names a few other questionable organizartions that he doesn't consider cults but imo I do. I think that any group who has the mentality of superiority and special, better than and more special than the rest of humanity is a cult regardless of their religious beliefs, if they have any. Cults like abusers whole purpose is about control and not necessarily just their members., some want global domination as extreme and rediculous as that sounds. They somehow believe they are entitled to and know what is best for the human race regardless of their tactics to achieve their goals or regardless of who suffers or is hurt.
My little speech is over now ;)
Does this description sound familiar to anyone? "

" thank u so much for this! i was the one who originally posted about the cults.. the farther away i get from my relationship the more im starting to see what my friends and family saw from day one.. it was like i really was brainwashed.. u get so used to thinking like them, that once you're out it's like u don't have your old sense of "normal" to judge things by (i know that sounds weird lol).. but it's like he totally reprogrammed not just WHAT i think (that would be way too simple!) but rather HOW i think... coming out of it now is like waking up from a really weird dream :/ "
