" Welcome, Ashling.

The verbal abuse site suggested by sassygray5 looks to have a lot of information. By following the links from there, I ended up at the Abuse Victim Hotline site (http://www.avhotline.org). I haven't had time to check it out thoroughly, but it appears to offer quite a few resources for victims of all types of abuse. You may want to check it out as well. "

" Hi Ashling. Verbal abuse can be devastating because it can sometimes be hard to identify. It can be explained away or smoothed over. Please check out www.youarenotcrazy.com. That was where I learned for the first time that my husband of 17 years was psychologically and emotionally abusive. I really didn't know! (We are now divorced.) Best of luck to you. "

" What they all said.

Welcome!

I also went through some very toxic verbal abuse which was one of the most horrible things. It is a very powerful abusive tactic to erode your sense of self and esteem and control you. Realize that NOBODY deserves to be treated like that.

All the best! Stay on here and vent as much as you like, everyone is incredibly supportive. "

" Abuse can be physical, mental, emotional, or sexual, or a combo of more than one...

I used to think I wish he would just smack me and get it overwith, because a slap would heal. even a punch.
But his weapon was his mouth and his silent treatments, and I think, for me the verbal and mental/emotional abuse left worse scars. "

" Hi Ashling,

I came across another resource on verbal abuse that I found most educational...at least for me:

http://www.abusivelove.com/index.html

Maybe you have seen it already, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

Take care. "
