I really dont know how to get rid of this fear that i have of them. I can't stand them! I start shaking and feeling out of breath whenever there's a spider close or when there's lots of bugs around. I know it might sound stupid or funny to others but they really have no idea how i feel when i see one! I don't wanna let it take control over my life :( what can i do???

I understand this completely. The fear keeps me away from people. When I do go out anywhere I have to psyche myself up for it and try not to get too stressed. Sometimes, I take a tranquilizer if I think the situation might give me too much stress.

I understand what you mean about spiders and bugs. I hate spiders a lot and I also HATE ants. I find them to be the grossest things on earth. I get really itchy when I see them! I wish I had some answers as to how to get over the fear of them but I dont. Do you have a therapist? Maybe a therapist would be able to help you get over your fear. Best of luck!

If you accept that spiders do more good than bad then it makes it easier. I for one hate the creepy crawling bastards, but they kill other bugs and pests like mosquitos and flys. They are one of natures many creatures that are a part of a very complex machine of order and balance. How would your life be without them? If you think about it we need them. Maybe if you research a little on them that will make you feel more secure about it. I usually research things I do not understand.

I DESPISE spiders, other bugs don't bother me that much, but spiders will make me hurt myself trying to get away from them, (broke my toe running away from one once). It causes instant panic, I have to run and get away from the little boogers. My counselor did some exposure therapy with me, (i.e. I bought a spider book and practiced looking at and touching the pictures, (trust me even touching a PICTURE is hard for me). It helped some, I have a little more control over my fear, but I still can't even get close enough to one to kill it.

I once saw a spider coming out of a shop, boy those 8 legs came in handy carrying her shopping, 7 bags hanging off her knees and one leg holding the car keys. i bet when her husband gives her a foot rub, it takes all day!
I suppose that when she goes shoe shopping the shopkeeper rubs his hand with glee when Mrs Spider walks in. I like to make up silly stories about spiders and the like for my phobia clients, it can add some much needed humour to the subject.

I don't have a phobia of spiders. But my husband has a severe case of it. He closes his eyes if it happens to show one on TV! If there's one in the house,I have to kill it for him.
The part that will really amuse you,is the fact that I have a phobia of little green frogs! The cold, slimy little boogers just creeps me out!

if they'd just stay outside where they belong all would be better...they're just so creepy looking...sometimes if i see them outside too close to the house i stand back with a can of oven spay and let them have it just to make sure they don't come in but even then its hard to calm down...part of me feels guilty for killing important life like that but my fear is stronger...sigh...just don't want to see them
