...adopt, don't breed! don't ever buy or sell an animal. this reduces them to the status of property, like any other inanimate object. the status of animals as property enables people to mistreat their animals and makes prosecution of animal abusers much more difficult. 70% of shelter animals are euthanized. why do they deserve to die, when some expensive inbred pedigree gets to live? by the way, shelters are full of pedigrees, ironically, since lots of people acquire animals for very shallow, selfish reasons. they get rid of them when they cease to be entertaining or become inconvenient. who buys expensive pedigrees? millionaires like paris hilton who parade them around as accessories to match their outfits, just another novelty. euthanasia of companion animals is despicable. my cats are both shelter cats and they are sweet, lively, clever, healthy and gentle. it makes me sick to know hundreds of thousands of cats and dogs -- with names, personalities, and histories -- are being gassed every day because people can't be bothered to take responsibility for these creatures who depend on us, who innocently trust the very people who lead them away to be murdered.
it is one thing if someone makes a mistake and their pet dies. accidents happen. but knowingly choosing to let an animal die because you want a designer pet is unforgivable.

" your right , i don't believe a pet is something you keep until you get tired of it and then throw it away . its a member of your family not a useless piece of trash . most of my pets have been stray dogs that have come to my house or starving dogs i have picked up on the side of the road that some idiot dropped and drove away to leave them to starve . the animal shelter dogs are all needing a loving home . i would take them all if i could . my heart breaks for them .
