Advice:
How Do I Deal With The Loss of My Best Friend?

On February 22, 2012 my husband called to ask me where the vet's office was. I asked why, told him and then he told me why. While he was driving out of the yard, my Miniature Schnauzer, Laci, must have got too close to the side of his vehicle and slid on this ice, going between the front and rear wheels on the passenger side. He had her in his rear view mirror, just before. When he looked again, she was laying on the ground. There were no visable signs of injury, but she only lived for a short while, so she did not suffer long.

We are both devastated and are not able to talk about it to each other. We got her when she was 8 weeks old and she would have been 9 years old in May. She was our "big girl". Our younger dog is also grieving, as she goes out and barks for her to come in.

Any advice on how to go on? Another dog, at this point, is not the answer, I don't believe as we could never replace her.

Thanks.

" im sorry for your loss.....the only advice i can give you is time!!....time is the only thing that helps..i had to put my dog down in nov suddenly and i still miss him like crazy and think did i miss something or could i have done something??? i think of him many times during the day..you said that getting another dog is not something you would do..i would rethink that...i have a 12 year old dog still and she was missing her friend of 10 years to...we now have a 4 month old friend for her and she is loving him..she is like a puppy again..i still feel guilty about replacing him but after seeing her so happy now i made the right decision..hugs to you. " I'm sorry for your loss! My 15 year-old kitty died suddenly in January and there are still days where I cry just thinking about her. I miss her terribly but every day is easier and everyone here on DS has been really wonderful and supportive. You are not alone! "
