Hello, my name is Bobby. I am a 37 year-old male. I was hoping you can review this and tell me what you think...
I was diagnosed by a GI specialist by doing an endoscopy that I had a bad case of acid reflux/GERD in May of last year (2008). I was perscribed Nexium 40mg which I took for 3 months before my insurance company told me they wouldn't cover it any longer. I went without medicine til now. In March of this year (2009) I started experiencing abdominal & chest pains. I just got laid off work so I don't have any health insurance at the moment. I was wondering if you can help me diagnose this problem I am having. Here are my syptoms:

1. Abdominal pains - lower left mainly, but can radiate.
2. Chest pains - left side, on edge of rib cage.
3. throat is raspy - faint taste of blood once a day.
4. spasm under edge of left rib where stomach/esophagus meet.
5. ALOT of burping.
6. Bloating.
7. Abdominal area feels like it's burning sometimes.
8. Been diagnosed with anxiety, which I know is bad on the stomach.

I DO NOT however have or had these symptoms:
1. No headaches
2. No fevers
3. No vomitting
4. Stools are normal - regular and 1x daily
5. No chills

I am a single father of four and they are worried cause they see that I'm not feeling good, so any advice would be grateful. Thank you very much!

" Sounds like a peptic duodenal ulcer to me. Even if it isn't, the following steps should relieve your symptoms:

1. Cut out all refined carbohydrates for two weeks. That includes ANY and ALL kinds of breads, white and brown suge, cereals, cakes, cookies, blue algave, etc. NO EXCEPTIONS. The sugar found in fruit is UNREFINED and is okay to eat with the fruit itself.

2. Eliminate ALL dairy from your diet. No milk, no cheese, no butter, no yogurt, no icecream, NO EXCEPTIONS! This takes discipline I know.

3. Try "food combining" when eating. Don't know about food combining? Please visit this site: http://www.thewolfeclinic.com/arti...

4. Avoid all processed foods especially foods with corn syrup, MSG, or preservatives added. Almost all processed foods contains MSG so better to just stay away from anything that came out of a factory (prepackaged foods). This seems like a tough thing to do just to avoid stomach problems, but it really isn't.

You can still enjoy beef, chicken, fish, fruits, and vegetables, but you're making it easier for you GI tract to handle the load by following these rules. Once your symptoms diappear...slowly integrate breads back into your diet. When you do eat meats, ALWAYS eat them with a raw vegetable such as romaine lettuce or broccoli and do not eat anything fried.

How do I know all of this? I had almost all of your symptoms 1-8 and my doctor prescribed me proton pump inhibitors, and they did almost nothing at all to help. Good health must be earned. You can't just eat whatever the hell you want, take a purple pill, and wait for everything be fine.

My doctor told me little or nothing about improving my diet. The solution to the medical community is always pills, pills pills, injections, radiation, and last but not least...pills. and while there is a place for pills and injection, somtimes, the simplest and least expensive solution is the one that is overlooked.
