" It seems to work well for me. No particular issues. I took it twice a day while my ulcers were healing, and still take it twice a day so that I can continue with arthritis meds. "

" I was on it along with Pepcid and had no problems whatsoever. But then my doctor changed it and wanted me to take 2 Pepcid's a day and discontinued the Prilosec. Needless to say I have been suffering from chest pains ever since. I go to the doc's wed. to get a new med for my PUD. "

" I took ppi's for almost a couple a years and found out too late that they are only supposed to be taken temporarily for emergencies until you figure what the root problem is. but dr's are slow about that so they give you pills to shut you up. i fell into that trap and got off of mine. it was like getting off of crack!!! now i take DGL tabs and use other soothing healthy aides and cut way down on stress. " I've been taking Prilosec for 18 months now, since my last peptic ulcer and the appearance of erosive esophgisits and duodonal diverticula. It seems to work well overall. I needed 40mg a day (2x20) in the acute treatment phase. It gave me the runs a bit, I think, though i'm on many other medications so it might've been the combination rather than the prilosec itself. It did heal the ulcer in about 6 weeks, but not the erosive esophagitis. I've been kept on the 20mg dose since, with going up to the twice a day when i have flareups (like when I needed to take steroids for another condition). My symptoms are back now, so I don't know if the 20mg over time stops to work, or if my stomach adapted, or if somethnig else shifted the balance in my gut. I went back on the 40mg and hopefully it'll work to heal things again. I don't want to be on this all my life, but I sure don't know what will happen. Anyone been on it for a long while, like years?
