I've had great results with Niaspan (a pharmeceutical version of niacin). Lowered my cholesterol from 260 to 160 in one month. If you take it just before bedtime, you'll probably sleep through the flush that usually occurs (but is not harmful).

Even a different statin might work. I was taking one that gave me a bad cough so we switched to another and I've been doing okay on it.

Taking a statin was a major factor in my finding out that I had PD. I had been taking Crestor for about a year or so and then I began to have some tension and stiffness that increased to the point that it began to affect my ability to walk. I quit the Crestor and got some relief but shortly thereafter was diagnosed with PD. I take niacin now for the cholesterol.

I have taken several different Statin drugs with the same effect. My last switch was to Crestor, which seems to be the least side effects of any I have tried.

Thanks so much for your replies. My PD diagnosis and the start of my cholesterol treatment were at about the same time. I thought the muscle pain was caused by the PD and was very upset that it was progressing so quickly.. I was having great difficulty with walking...there's just so many symptoms of PD....thanks for confirming that it could be the statins.

I am taaking Crestor for over four years now and so far have not experienced any muscle pain.

I JUST STARTED TAKING LIPITOR. MD. DID ADVISE OF MUSCLE PAIN AND JOINT PROBLEMS . MY PROBLEM IS I ALREADY HAVE A PRETTY BAD CASE OF THESE SYPTOMS ALREADY. I WONDER IF ANYONE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM ? BOBP
