Sinemet seems to be working great and I have lowered my Azilect. Any reason to add Comtan? Neuro seems to think so. Only minor side effects from the sinemet- thanks guys...

" Interested why you lowered the Azilect to .5. I am also on Sinemet but take half a pill 4X a day. Found whole pill too much at one time. I am also trying to reduce medications by exercising more. Don't have any experience with Comtan but why add it if your doing ok ? "

" Hey Schells, My neuro just tried Entacapone 200mg x 4. I believe this is the generic version of Comtan. The purpose was to keep the sinemet from breaking down as readily between doses. It has many side effects. The accompanying warnings state that it is known to have "severe side effects... and by prescribing this medication your physician has determined that these are outweighed by the possible benefits". I had problems with it to where I couldn't unclench my teeth or my right hand. I discontinued it Saturday. "

" Neuro said clinical trials of azilect show just as much neuroprotective properties at .5 and 1mg. Thanks for the helpful advice on adding comptan everyone. I am not having any ineffectiveness from sinemet currently - just minor side effects and toe clenching (foot wigglin!) so I think I will skip changes for now. Hey when are they going to make a pill with NO side effects!!! "

" When I took comtan separate from sinemet I couldn't handle it as it made me so nauseous but then my doctor put me on Stalevo instead which is a combination of both and I have no problem with the nausea now and it's working out great for me. "
