Ok - so here we go. Saw the neurologist this afternoon, he is starting me on Stalevo 75, a levadopa, carbidopa and entacapone mix.
Anyone have experience with this or advice on what makes this easier. I know about the nausea and dizziness. Should I not be doing anything else. He said take it after dinner and after lunch since I don't really eat breakfast and have to drive to and from work. Any help would be appreciated. Boop59 Posted on 03/19/09, 07:03 pm |

I take Stalevo 100 and have done for some time now. My consultant worked out the best times for me to take it and that was an hour before any food or an hour after any food. He said I would get the best from my medication by doing this and it works for me. If I slip up on this regime I know about it for the best part of a day.

Hi, My husband takes the Stalevo as well. We found out through this forum and other forums that you do need to watch your diet and timing of your Sinemet meds. Good thing we have forums such as this since his neurologist neglected to mention such an important thing. Protein really affects the sinemet meds. Something about it takes the same "carrier" to digest the sinemet as it does the protein so the medicinal effect is much lower. Search the web for more information if you need to. My husband is finally understanding this and coming to grips with it. He's a normal man and most everything he likes is "protein" Meats, cheese, pinto beans...It can be done though. Just as one of the other responders to your post said, if you do it too close you will generally know the difference all day. My husband has been diagnosed about 10 years now and is on a fairly heavy medicine regiment. He takes the Stalevo along with some doses of just the Sinemet and then Requip as well. The Stalevo is slower to act. We call the Sinemet 25/100 and 3 mg of Requip his "kickers". We've started taking that in the morning as his early meds to get him going as it is faster acting. Then before that has worn off we do the Stalevo and Requip. He is having to take something about every three hours now. I got him a beeper off ebay he sets which helps him remember to take his meds. That's helped a LOT. So, I guess what I'm saying is don't wait till you really need the Stalevo to take it as it is slower to take effect but is supposed to hold you longer. Best of luck! Sandy
