My wife has been diagnosed with PD for about 7 years now, has been on increasing dosages of Stalevo during that time, and over the past year has become immobile. About 1 year ago, she started experiencing incontinence, and with tests, it was determained that her bladder is expericiencing muscle spasms, believed to be caused by the PD. At this time, she on a catheter and bag due to the incontinence. About 8 months ago, she started experiencing muscle spasms of the colon, which causes her to sit on the toilet 8-10 times per day, with the feeling of a bowel movement coming on. However, most of time, nothing happens. Again, her doctor believes it is related to PD. She is on meds for Spastic Colon, but no satisfactory results from that med. My question: Is anyone else with PD experiencing these problems? If so, can you remember how far along the PD had progressed before those symptoms showed up? I thank you for your time and responses.

" False alarms can be from dry/hard stool. Read constipation posts. You can try urinating every 45 - 60 min to see if she can get by or not. Try asking a herbologist. Janis "

" I understand too well. I wish I only tried to go 8-10 times. Its so frustrating! That many times is all before noon, never mind the rest of the day and bedtime. Has she tried Colace. Its over the counter. I have Dystonia and pretty sure it will be secondary to PD. Waiting test results. I hate these disorders!!

" My mother, who has PD, always had a very hardy gastrointestinal system. Since contracting PD, she has had several boits with colitis. Gastrointestinal problems of varying kinds and to varying degrees seem to be a part of the lives of many people with PD. "
