My 78 year old Dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's last March and put on Sinemet. He saw his neurologist yesterday who decided to add Comtan to the mix. Apparently the Comtan won't do anything directly, but could boost the effects of the Sinemet. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Fairly early on, my neuro put me on that combination and I did very well on it for quite sometime. NO side effects, no problems with it at all. I was on it for quite awhile, then the PD started to progress and we had to make changes, but while I was on that combo I did fine.

The neurologist just added Comtan to lev/carb for my 81-year-old Dad. After about 10 days he complained of insomnia. I see on the package insert that it can be a side effect--not a common one, but possible. Have any of you had that? Does it mean it's time to start cutting down on the lev/carb (which I guess is what adding the Comtan is supposed to help you do)?
I sure feel for you guys--it's like everytime a med is changed there's some new wrinkle, and it's not like we can keep running back to the dr. every 10 days or so. Thanks in advance for any insights!
