my mum was diagnosed when i was younger, an to cut a long story short now they have moved to brisbane were there more advanced in knowledge an support an medication. her new specialist there (as i still live in adelaide with my partner) is talking about trying apomorphene, an now matter how much i look up on the internet i just get more an more confused, with all these big words it just confuses me more an more an i dont know anyone in the same situation until i stubbled accross this site.
im glad i found this site i can finally ask questions to people who understand. its hard not knowing whats going on an not knowing who i can talk to. any information in "normal" terms ( i feel so silly asking like this) will help thanks so much Posted on 05/31/07, 11:05 am |

Hey Mumsgirl---here are the indications for apomorphine in the U.S.
1) We use apomorphine to reduce "off time" in addition to cabergoline (Dostinex) 2)Patients who experience rapid “wearing-off” symptoms are considered candidates for treatment with apomorphine. 3) Additionally patients with gradual “wearing off,” or those who notice the reemergence of nonmotor symptoms associated with parkinsonism, may use apomorphine to avoid motor decline. 4) Early-morning akinesia can also be treated effectively with apomorphine. 5) An initial injection of apomorphine can reverse “off” episodes in a patient more rapidly than an oral dose of levodopa, and early morning tasks such as dressing, bathing, and eating can be performed much more readily. Hope this helps Dr O.
