I've been taking Mirapex for over 3 yrs. and have experienced weight gain. ? compulsive eating ? Also ? overusing computer and shopping--?
My Neurologist has discontinued the mirapex over a two week period and now I'm experiencing cramping and twisting of my feet , increased tremor in both arms along with other muscle spasms. I'm in the second week of cutting out the mirapex. Also, Comptan has been added to my meds at the same time. My neurologiist is out of town, it's Friday and I can't stand it any longer.... HELP!

" Normac2, I don't have PD but my hubby does. He was taking Mirapex and then Requip in 2006. He had such terrible side effects that they were discontinued. He did have twisting in his feet, hallucinations and much more. He was pretty much bed bound for 2 months until they finally diagnosed Dystonia in his feet. The neurologist started giving him botox shots every 3 months for that. i wish I had some information for you to get you through these symptoms. I will keep you in my prayers and continue to pray that you get help soon. xoxo "

" Normac2, I stopped taking Mirapex in 2005 but it was replaced with Requip. I did not have any side effects. The Mirapex cause me to have the compulsive gambling and buying problems. I have been on Requip since then but in the last year the compulsiveness has returned. My Dr. cut the Requip back to twice a day but it has not helped. I do get the cramping in my feet and ankles but not constant. I have to stretch and walk the cramps out. It is the only way I can get rid of them. Do you exercise at all? It helps. I will pray that you get relief soon. "

" My husband has PD and we've experimented with Mirapex until we were satisfied. He's had hallucination and weird dreams so we've adjusted the dosage. He now takes 1 mg tablets. He takes a full tablet at 8am and 1/2 tablet at 2pm. Any later, he gets hallucinations. His tremors are under control as are his leg cramps. Hope it continues. Good luck with figuring out what works best for you "

" THANKYOU everyone! I phoned the pharmacist to see if what I am experiencing could be due to my body needing mirapex. I increased it to last weeks dose and now my symptoms are not as severe. I sure appreciated all your advice and I felt the support. Also --- please keep me in your prayers especially because I'm also supporting my husband who is suffering a major depression. "

" I dont take mirapex, but have learned that their are support groups for those who do, as it is a very addictive drug. Im hoping you are going through withdrawels only, and your new meds will kick in and conquer the problem. my leg sort of twists when my sinmaet wears off "

" Ive been on Mirapex for 6 years. Ive Learned as I was told it takes some time for your person to except the drug during that time I have experienced flue like symptoms''sick stomach, dizzy ".I switched temporarly to what they refer to as the gold standard of PD drugs it has been around 30 yrs. As the warnings say it may bring out what is allready there or cause things like dystonia muscle turgers.Do your home work and yes you can say ''NO TO AN MD.

" My husband has PD and his doctor put him on Mirapex approximately 2 months ago and it has been a nightmare ever since. His whole personality changed. He has been doing some bizarre things and not even realizing it. He has become a compulsive computer user on websites he has no business being, has a compulsive drive to communicate and send pictures to strangers, he has become aggressive, agitated, argumentative, mentally abusive, etc. Like I said, mentally, his whole personality changed. I did the research regarding the side effects and I sat down with him. All he knew is that "something wasn't right". Called the doctor who cut his dosage from 3 times a day to 1.5 times. At the moment he is taking one pill in the morning until he sees his doctor next week. Good luck to you and I wish you well. "
