Advice:
Stalevo or pure Sinemet

My husband has been on Stalevo since 2005 which I know has Sinemet in it but it doesn't seem to be as effective anymore. Is there a difference between the Stalevo and regular Sinemet. If so, is Sinemet alone a stronger med for pd. Will it cause Dyskenesia?
what added bonuses does the pure strength Sinemet provide? Isn't it the only, strongest med out there?

" My understanding is that Stalevo has an additional ingrediant with the Sinamet content which can make the Sinemet more efficient. At least this is what my neurologist said. "

" I moved to Crete and my new consultant here told me they dont use sinemet, so they put me on stalevo and my actual dosage was less than it was on Sinamet. I have been on this medication for nearly two years now and am only now starting to feel I may need the dosage upping a bit. I also take Mirapex 3 times a day but the last one is taken late at night. I have been told that stalevo is more expensive than Sinamet but I don't know if this is true. Also suppposed to have less side effects according to doctors here on Crete "

" It isn't the only drug out there - I am a big fan of Amantadine and it is the only drug I have taken - eliminates tremor and fully restored my good frame of mind. Sick for 10-11 yrs and dx'd for 5 years. I can phone you if you send your # if you want info. Also note my next post on weight lifting. Janis "

" The Stalevo made me dizzy whereas the Sinemet did not give this problem. I went to Stalevo at the suggestion of the doctor. "

" find yourself a nuro who specializes in pd. not all nuero docs understand pd symtoms, meds, timing of meds, combination of meds. at the advice of new found specialist I dropped stelavo continued with sinimet smaller dose 4x per day plus seleiline 2x. much better control now. keep trac of symtoms off times, and uptake time after dosing. good luck "
