I am new member. Lately, I have been having a lot of leg pains. If I sit at computer or sit in the car for a while I have trouble walking. I get very bad pain in my right leg only. I have been taking Ibruprovin. I also find that rubbing the sore area helps. The pain goes from my calf all the way up my leg and into my hip and back. I have been using a cane when it gets bad.
I am inbetween my Dr's visit so I haven't discussed with him yet. Posted on 02/21/09, 03:02 am |

Hi Kathy, I'm fairly new to this group as well and I don't know that I can give you much advice. I can relate to your leg pain and difficulty walking as I struggle with this also. I do spend long periods sitting at the computer and my pain and difficulty walking are particularly bothersome when I get up ( with difficulty)and struggle to walk. I'm trying to get up and change position more frequently and have started to exercise using a video that is appropriate for many health conditions including Parkinson's. I think that maintaining my range of motion and just plain moving has helped . I also take Ibuprofen which does help. Also I have gained weight ++ which I know is affecting my mobility and pain! I haven't been motivated to deal with this yet!
When the pain is intolerable, I use " Dr. Ho " which is an electronic muscle stimulation and massage machine. Friend had recommended this and it has been a life saver. (just google Dr-Ho} I also use a cane as needed and also use trekking poles ( similar to cross country ski poles except no snow) . These have helped with my balance and stability. Lately I have used a mobility scooter at the mall which is available through customer service. Hey! I have more to share than I thought ! Of course there is one BIG resource that is getting me through this struggle with Parkinson's and that is the prayer support of friends and my faith in God. He is my strength when I am weak. Hugs, Norma

Hi There - I get terrible leg pain as well. Mine is mostly in my left leg (my tremor is also on the left) and my Physical Therapist has told me to use a rolling pin on my thigh and calf muscle when it stiffens up and gives me that much pain. It works like a charm!! My kids looked at me strange the first time they came in the family room and saw the marble rolling pin next to my chair but it helps! Only wish I could find a small one for my shoulders and upper arm!

Hey Kathy.
I was dx'ed with PD 7 years ago and felt pretty secure that all my symptoms were PD related. I wish. I was recently diagnosed with DRD or Dopamine Responsive Dystonia. This is fairly common in PD patients and can become painful make walking very difficult. I deal with it with yoga, sinemet and as little stress as possible. This may not be your issue but please ask your doctor. Don.
