Medication - Ritalin

My 6 year old son was diagnosed with adhd last week and the consultant has put him on 10mg of Ritalin to begin with. My understanding is that it may take a while to get the dosage right.
Since I started Harry on the Ritalin (Saturday) I have been watching him like a hawk. Hoping to notice some difference and am finding it hard to know what to look for. I know that sounds strange but the only thing I have really seen so far is that he is tending to be quite tearful, otherwise there doesnt seem to be any change.
The consultant will ring once a week for feedback and then adjust the medication accordingly.
Im just not sure if they are making a difference or not.
