Vyvanse wearing off too early

Hi all. Our son has been on every stimulant except concerta. He just started back on Vyvanse 30mg which works well, but wears off in 8 or 9 hrs just like everything else. He was just on Focalin xr 15mg at 7 a.m. & noon but it was worn off by 4 p.m. I think his body got immune to it after being on it 6 months....We have recently taken him off the bus & drive him to & from school because I heard he is making noises on the bus & annoying people. I'm guessing this is in the afternoon since he is pretty quiet in the a.m. Very frustrating. He has been the outcast in our neighborhood because of his impulsive goofy behavior. He has no insight that people don't like being around him.. It has been very heart breaking. Anyway, a lot of content here, but any thoughts/ideas? Thanks much!

Our doctor has given us a low dose of something relatively short acting to give my son when he gets home from school if he's having trouble focusing on homework. His medication has pretty much worn off by 2:00 though his appetite continues to be suppressed after that. Obviously this doesn't help you with any issues he has before he gets home.
My son is on Vyvanse now but he's been on many other medications and some of them seemed to wear off much later in the day.

Hi. My 9 yo son is the same with others in the neighborhod, and bless him, he has no clue. He tries so hard to be friendly and to make friends, but because of his behaviour he ends up pushing them away. It's hard as his Mom to see this, but am praying that with the Vyvance, 20 mg/day, he will be able to make a good friend one day soon. Thanks for sharing your story. It really helps.

Thank you, Faithfirst. Will be praying for you and your family as well. Only found DS a few days ago, and it's already been a tremendous help and blessing to me. It helps so much to meet others who can not only sympathize with you but who truly know what you're going through and how you feel. Hope the Vyvanse helps-lasts longer. Take care! and thanks again for your support. =)

I see it's been about a month since your original post, but I wanted to add our experience in case you're still having difficulty.
The Vyvanse would wear off too quickly for my then 7 yo so we increased his dosage, but we didn't notice any difference so we cut it back again. The doctor added a low dose Ritalin to be taken at the end of school, but that was gone too soon also. So we changed his medicine to the Daytrana patch and that has worked wonders. We kick the day off with a low dose Ritalin pill as the patch takes about an hour to start working. We get through afterschool care, homework, dinner and chores so much easier now.

Thank you much for your replies:) Our son is still on Vyvanse 40mg. It lasts about 10 hrs which is o.k. unless he has Cub Scouts or other activity at night. The thing that bothers me is that when the med is working it seems like he's so quiet and subdued. We have tried Daytrana and thought it worked really well except it irritated his skin so he would scratch around it, and his skin was dry so it would fall off at school. We tried different creams but it seemed like it was falling off a lot. If he could swallow pills maybe he could try Concerta. The last thing he was on was Focalin XR 15mg at 7 a.m. and noon. It worked well for about 6 months then seemed to quit working at 4 p.m.!!
