" Day 2 on Concerta and Missy is a little more subdued but not much. I observed her today when I was volunteering at school but we'll see when she gets home after school and we do homework.

We go back to the psychiatrist next Monday to see how it is working and if we need to increase the dosage. "

" I am glad you are seeing positive results. We are still adjusting dosages and had to pair it with a low dosage of Ritalin. But we are finally seeing positive results.

Good luck, its not easy, but once you find the right combination, ADHD children are a joy! "

" Day 5 on Concerta and things are seemingly getting better but we still have additude, not listening and still not there in paying attention in school. The lying and stealing has stopped to the best of my knowledge but I'm sure we will have an increase in dosage when we go to the psychiatrist on Monday afternoon.

I'll keep posting here on the status of our journey. Thanks to those of you that posted.

" Day 8 on Concerta, Day 1 on 27 mg.

We went to the psychiatrist yesterday and she increased the dose to 27 mg because 18 was helping but not enough. We are hoping we don't have to go beyond 36 mg in another week. We still have the lying and 2-hr homework sessions so I'm certianly hoping this dose works.

The psychiatrist mentioned with her history she could very well have RAD (Reactive Attachment Disorder) with her early history so I googled it and she fits every behavior except the pulling away. After reading the reasons children develop this disorder it makes me want to shoot someone even more than I did before!!

I am feeling very overwhelmed today with all this new information even though it does explain more of her behavior besides adhd. "

" My daughter has been on Concerta 54 mg since she was 3. Out of all the meds we tried this med seems to control the ADHD symptoms like inattentiveness, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. We had to make dosage adjustments as well but so far have been doing well on 54 mg and my child is 8. We tried over the summer to add Strattera and come down on the dose of Concerta but since adding Strattera my daughter has been having thoughts of suicide. The doctor seems to think the Strattera has alot to do with this since this is a black box warning on Strattera. Just stick with Concerta and I think you will see a difference. She may also need therapy to go with the medication as well. "

" Week 3 on 36 mg,

Things are going well although I initially thought we were where we needed to be I think perhaps another increase to 45 mg might be in order. We got back to the psychiatrist in another 2 wks so I will wait until then to ask her about the increase or if something else should be added.

Rayzia1, we had no side effects from Straterra, no sucidal thoughts, no self destructive anything in fact she became much more loving than she had ever been while taking it. "

" Oh, I forgot to add I also added 3 mg of Melatonin at night to help her sleep and give her 1-2 tabs of calm child in the afternoon to help her concentrate enough to do homework. "

" How has the 'Calm child' been working? I have not heard of it so I am curious. My daughter takes Adderall 10 mg twice a day. We were on this last year and it got switched over the summer; now we are back to it. She was seeing her pediatrician but now we are going to the psychiatrist. Next visit will be in a bout another week. Sometimes between the both of us, I need meds as well. My daughter is 10 and she has not been a 'loving' child since she was 2-3 years old. The pediatrician and the psychiatrist think there is something else going on with her besides ADHD so I am hoping for answers to that soon. At least then maybe we can get a new start and try helping her in better ways. I believe she took the Concerta a long time ago and I don't believe there were any side effects but there were really no changes in her behaviors either. Hang in there and best wishes. "

" anitre1214,

Calm child really seems to help Missy concentrate enough to get thru homework. Now we still have some challenging times with math but at least she can sit still, listen and figure out the answer.

I do think we need to bump it up another step tho because the teacher said she hasn't noticed much difference in class.
We still don't seem to have any side effects from the med yet. "
