My 5 yr old is going to summer school now. I met her Family Preservation(FP) counselor today. She said she has had no problems at all. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this happen. Katie gets up in the morning and it is a constant struggle to get her to eat breakfast, get dressed, brush her hair and teeth and into the car. At school she behaves, it is summer school and they mostly play. She comes home and all hell breaks loose. The struggle ends only when she goes to sleep, which she doesn't do willingly now. This same thing happened last year in pre-K for the first few weeks. After she felt comfortable at school her behaviour got out of control there too. It's as if she can hold it in for awhile at school, but not at home, or in public if she is with me. Is it because she knows I will love her no matter what?
I have a grown ADHD granddaughter and she was quite all the time at school, but went balistic as soon as she got out of school. She got looked over for a long time because she was so quite at school. They didn't know she just wasn't getting what they were trying to teach her. Her mom did most of her school work with her at home. They tested her at 5th grade level but she didn't get a lot of help. My daughter continued to teach her at home even though she was in the public school system. Katie's FP counselor said today that she wouldn't be surprised if she is gifted but on her PAL testing she did not do well. I know she knows the things they tested her on. I have noticed that sometimes she knows something and then she doesn't. I don't understand that either. Her preK teacher said she is very smart but that her behaviour won't be tolerated in kindergarden. Her doc doesn't want to put her on medication for awhile yet. We have to wait and see how she does in kindergarden. Posted on 06/26/09, 11:06 am |
