Anybody have any advice on how to help a 13 year old organize and keep up with stuff. Going crazy with school papers everywhere; forgetting to follow routines though explained and posted; losing jackets; leaving food out (I was not happy about the ice cream melting all over the counter). I am also inattentive and my youngest is challenging so it's hard for me to follow behind him and remind him of the steps to completing all of these daily tasks. Any tricks, gadgets, strategies would be greatly appreciated.

" I had to smile at your post, as it echoes a dear friend's posts of over 20 years ago, when I was raising my son instead of my grandson! She was the same way and struggled mightily!

I'm sorry I don't have any advice, but I wanted you to know that there are others who have trod the same road!

I do know lists help me and if I remember correctly, they helped her a lot as well. A planner that is broken down by hours is a big help as well, for me. And I keep it right out on the kitchen table where I can see it every time I walk by.

Best of wishes with your struggles! "

" Thanks. It does help to know that I'm not alone. We've tried planners and they work for school somewhat. His grades are great. We'll just have to keep looking for something to help with the things at home. "

" Sometimes it just helps to sit down and really prioritize. To realize that you don't have to sweat the small stuff.

There are days (OK, I confess, weeks) when my house looks like a hurricane went through it! Large garden, single mom and grandma, animals to care for, caretaker of aging and ailing uncle. It bugs the heck out of me, but I have also come to the point where I realize that I'm NEVER going to get the lawn mowed once a week and I'm NEVER going to get my floors vacuumed daily and there WILL ALWAYS be dirty dishes in my sink. I WILL NEVER live up to other people's expectations of me. But I WILL always be there for those who count on me! There's something to be said for that, I guess!
