Advice:
Non-med. for slowing adhd children down

My son is on the patch (daytrana). He can only take half the patch because the whole patch makes him real nervous. He still is rushing when doing his school work. I would think that he would need something to calm him down and not make him nervous. It seems alot of these medicines have a stimulant in them. Is there any non-medication that would slow them down?

" With a classic ADHD child, the stimulant has the direct opposite effect. They actually slow the child down somewhat. You can actually treat a classic ADHD child by feeding him a little coffee or coke for a very limited, temporary period of time. lol.

Many of the medications ARE stimulants. That is why they are regulated drugs, in my understanding.

If they are not working for your child, it could be several things. First of all, I'd try a different medication. Don't give up after one try. But I would talk to your doctor. It could be your child is not ADHD but has some other problem with similar symptoms. There are so many and they are so very hard to diagnose. It is a lot of trial and error, unless you know something runs in the family.

Good luck and God Bless! "
