Hi, I am new to the group and have two children with ADHD. We have tried a lot of prescription meds and we have had very bad side effects. I am looking for something that taste good and works. Any suggestions? Thanks for the advice.

" Any chance there are other issues besides ADHD? Like my younger step daughter has PTSD too so needs Clonidine to help stay asleep and controlling the crying tantrums. Both of my two girls 6 and 8 use Concerta to help them and have seen huge improvements. Very few side effects (like decrease in appetite). Haven't tried anything herbal. Hopefully this helps. "

" I have a ten year old with ADHD and he is in his 5th day of school and has already been put out. He was on Vyvanse 60 mg last school year and he still got in trouble everyday. The year before he was on adderall and he had barely any improvement. I went to GNC and they recommended Childrens DHA and a multi- vitamin. He just started this week but it takes a couple of weeks to see any results. I will let you know if I have any success. I am to the point that I will not put him on any meds and maybe homeschooling him. The meds he has tried so far are not for him. Also, the side affects of these meds outweigh the positive results. "

" I tried the DHA as well.. fish oils/omega, etc.. all of which are supposed to help. I'm sure for some, it does, but it didn't for me, unfortunately. It was only medication that made enough difference for my son for him to function. I don't like that he's on medication, and if I had a choice, he wouldn't be on them, but for us, we have to. That said, everyone is different, so it certainly wouldn't hurt to try natural methods.

I've also noticed that it isn't the meds alone that helped with my son, but a combination of that and behaviour modification. Some behaviour methods may make enough difference with your kids too, so definitely try that too. (rewards charts, incentives, IEPs for the classroom, etc.) "
