Look's like I have small wound that might be infected on my booty :(. I'm going to put neorsporin on it with balmex. So anyone have a better solution. I'd rather wait a few days then go to the doctor if it doesn't change. I'm sure all he'll do would most likely scrape the dead stuff away. As everyone knows that has a high injury seeing a doctor for wounds is horrible experience. Since I can't transfer on my own or view the wound from my wheelchair :(. It doesn't look bad just needs to be attended too.

" Be sure to keep it clean. Don't need staph infection or MRSA either.

Can you move off the spot? I just have had stage one bed sore & it can get real depressing as a reminder that you are different.

Maybe a phone call to doc will help. "

" I just had the nurse look at it which she said it was stage 2. So i'm going to be bed riddin for awhile :(. Sucks because this should have been prevented if my aid said something. So i'll be turning every 2 hours to relieve some pressure. "

" What are these stage one and stage two wounds? Danny has had lots of bedsores and I often think he has a sore bottom when he is sitting for any length of time. He has also been prone to fungal infections and has infected big toes (nails?) Our doctor is thinking of referring him to a dermatologist after swabs and bloods are taken (he has been on even more antibiotics)

I suppose what I am asking is - are people who are paralysed more prone to skin breakdown? "

" Oh, and buttabean, I hope your nurse has advised you on how to care for the wound. I did read the other day (in the natural alternative treatments group) in a posting from one member that "My dads mother (old lady Greek village...) used to get dried oregano and grind it into dust she then used to put it on wounds that wouldn't heal. A crust would form and the wounds finally healed." However, I have no personal experience of this. "

" Thanks for the replies :) I do have good news to report already. It no longer looks infected and around the wound is no longer red. Looks clean as well so hopefully in a few days it will look much better. I'll keep ya posted.

I might try the powdered oregano lol but i'm abit uneasy about putting something like a food seasoning on me :). Marion you didn't hear that from "cannibal digest" did you? :P

Thanks again Kelly and Marion :) "

" What type of cushion are you sitting on? The best one I have found is ROHO High Profile. It is 4 inches of air cushioning. It is wonderful.

When I had the sore I was using another cushion & it was a must that I move every 2 hours. With the ROHO it is not so important. "

" Glad the wound is healing so quickly and love the sense of humour, buttabean!

The New Mobility article was very interesting, kellygrn, and I am now going to check if the product is available in the UK or can be shipped here.

Interesting about the cushion too. My son has a memory cushion but I want to learn to help keep him as comfortable as possible. "

" I have a Jaytwo cushion which is half gel. Need to check out some new cushions. I remember back when I was at kessler rehab they had a cushion that constantly circulates air pressure kinda like my air mattress for my bed. "
