Hi my name is Trish, I have been dealing with GAD for over 12 years, I was diagnosed with Pneumonia with Pleuritic pain....well today I went for my follow up chest xray and pleural enfusion...which apparently means abnormal fluid in the lungs...he has referred me to a Pulmonary specialist and I have an appointment on friday. and I am freaking out! I am scared to death that they will have to drain the fluid via a chest tube! My doctor checked my pulse today while I was in his office and said "you have an elevated heart rate???" UM DUH Im having a panic attack right here on your table doc! .....I guess I just wanted to vent but if anyone has any input on this subject please reply.....Trish

" Just going to a dr. office can make me anxious.....even when it is to get info and help for my anxiety. I think a lot of people get anxious going to a dr. But for those of us who suffer with anxiety it can really be bad. And add to that if you have a serious medical condition you are trying to take care of. It can help me if I let the person know upfront that I'm feeling nervous and anxious. They usually explains things differently to me.......to help ease the panic. Panic attacks are awful but if I'm going to have one a doctor's office is one of the safer places to have be. "

" its quite common to have a panic attack at the doctors or while having some medical procedure, you must tell them, this is very important as they wont know otherwise

for a panic attack in the waiting room, tell the receptionist, and say I may need to leave for a while but I will be back

as always, a large dose of valium will panic proof you for a while

doctors all know what a panic attack is now, before they didnt.... "

" Thanks Harry! I have never dreamed of telling them that I have or am having a panic attack I always felt like with others ..they wouldnt understand... I did take a xanax before the ultrasound to check for blood clots in my legs and that helped me to get through the appt! "
