So I need some advice from all of you awesome people. I met with my psycho- pharm doctor yesterday and she made the suggestion of up-ing my meds from 300mg to 400mg of Neurotin aka Gabapentin. I feel like I am stuck on what to do for multiple reasons and would like your advice. For starters, I am doing much better than I was months ago. I haven't had a panic attack in two months. I have been going for neuro-feedback and bio-feedback, and I've been taking bach flowers, and I have even tried hypnosis, and i've been in talk therapy for a while. I feel like all of these have helped. However, in the same token I still feel a level of anxiety all the time. Since I was a child I have always been anxious, and I don't know what calm is. My point being I have learned to live with being anxious. So I think part of me is afraid to finally be calm because it's unknown territory. In addition to this, I've been having a lot of flashbacks lately. That are leaving me anxious and on the threshold of a panic attack, but I have used other techniques to calm myself to stay below the point where I have an attack. Therefore my question is, should I up the meds, or should I leave it because i'm not having attacks right now?
Thank u so much in advance :) Posted on 11/04/09, 09:11 pm |

neurontin is promoted as a magic cure for almost everything, if you think it isnt helping you could fradually taper off, keeping a supply available in case you need to get back on it
CBT relaxation methods such as deep slow breathing calm anxious people, gentle exercise should also help

thanks hun! I appreciate the advice. I actually ended up talking to a few of my doctors and a few friends to and my doctors told me to up it for now, and they are going to try and lower it later. They figure with the therapy i'm going through and the doors i'm opening that I haven't before is causing me to have flash backs that are causing my attacks right now. But I am def going to keep going to the gym and try some more relaxation techniques. :)
