For the last several weeks I wake up @ 3:30 from horrible panic attacks brought on by nightmares. I had really bad panic attacks 5 years ago, but since I have been able to keep my panic attacks under control. Until about a month ago when I had a dinner party at my house and I don't know if I had to much to drink and that set me off, or just the building of stress from a bad marriage, and other stresses that finally caused me to have a 5 hour panic attack. Now I am having these stupid nightmares and wake up freaking out. It annoys me wife. Luckily I have a neighbor who has panic attacks to and is so kind to offer me to come over anytime that I need some comfort during the storm.

Any suggestions? I am afraid of sleeping now. My wife likes to have a huge down comforter on our bed and I wake up so hot and sweaty. I am now on the couch with my Doberman and little dog to avoid waking my wife with my panic attacks.

" This happened to me for months every night it never failed.I figured out that if as soon as I woke up in the middle of my sleep with this, that i needed to immediately stretch all my limbs one by one. And the greatest thing ever and I can't explain why or how this calmed me down within 2-3 minutes was a hand held massager.I have the 5 dollar one that looks like a bug with 4 legs. Anyway I put it directly in the middle of my chest every time and it works great to stop my body from acting stupid and it helps my heart rate go down faster too. When this happens to my mom she gets up immediately and starts doing things and drinks hot tea.I'm too lazy to get out of bed. Also I started using a cpap machine and when I used it the attacks didn't come even when I woke in the middle of my sleep.I have to knock on wood now because this just stopped happening a few weeks ago.Good luck to you. " Needinghope,
I wonder if waking up with panic is a sign of sleep apnea? And having BPPV, I would wake up spinning with Panic. You have that cpap and now your doing better. I think that has a lot to do with it.

Suferdude, maybe your oxygen levels drop when your sleeping and dreaming. Resulting in a panic attack. It kind of makes sense to me. I have cpap machine too. And it's not because I'm overweight,Becuase I am not. My oxygen levels drop to 80% when I sleep. They said I have a rare case because i dont snore either...I HATE having rare anything! LOL "

" I have horrible dreams that wake me up but I wouldn't call it a panic attack. When I do have panic attacks I do yoga and take a xanax. BEst to you hope you can work through it eventually it will stop so keep that in mind I've been through this before so there is hope at the end. "

" Ask your doctor about clorazepate. Helps you sleep and helps with the anxiety. I was taking zoloft but still having the night time and morning anxiety problems. Its worked out great for me. Being tired adds to your anxiety so its good to get back to a good nights sleep "
