Sick of Panicking

I just joined this site, tonight. I don't really know what I'm looking to gain from it. My profile and journal are public. All are welcome to view, relate, etc...

A little about myself: I've been having panic attacks since I was 10 and hid if from my parents until I was 16, because I felt ashamed. At 17, I was prescribed Ativan and Prozac and have been abusing Ativan off and on ever since. I'm starting grad school in just about two weeks, and desperately want to kick my Ativan habit, but I'm noticing the harder that I try to stay away from it, to more panic attacks I've been having. I'm trying to be more open and honest with my family, friends, and boyfriend, but it's hard when no one can fully understand what you're going through.

" we are glad you are here panick attacks are horrible and make life unberable. have you ever tried non narcotic solutions to your anxiety. antidepressants help some people with anxiety and there are also non narcotic anti anxiety meds available. going to your doctor and asking for help would be the first step. addiction is a monster in itself and if you feel you have an addiction problem please deal with that. the older you get the harder it is to stop. and eventually the drug your taking will not be enough and you will want something stronger. i know i have been down that road and it is not pretty. hang in there "

" Welcome to the board. = )

I began having panic attacks very young as well. For your situation, I feel your going to need some counseling to get you off the Ativan and dealing with the anxiety on your own. Have you looked into any rehab facilities in your area? In our town we have a voluntary walk-in rehab center that does amazing work.

For those who've never had panic, it can be very difficult for them to sympathize with what your going through.

Wish you the best! "
