Hope I spelled that right. But my doc is young and up on all the new stuff so she prescribed me a med which is actually a antihistamine she said to take that first then take my ativan as a last resort.
Well it does calm me. This is so weird to me but yeah it works.
Anyone heard of doing this?

" it seems kind of funny actually. a lot of antihistamines include a stimulant, like sudafed. that's why a lot of pharmacies are keeping it behind the counters now. "

" I have heard of this. It's usually something like Benadryl. It's actually been said that a lot of anxiety comes from an undiagnosed inner ear problem, which is why the antihistamine helps. :) Hope it works for you! "

" I just read an article online about a study showing a possible synergistic relationship between adrenaline and histimine. Maybe that's why anti-histimines work sometimes? "

" antihistamines do sedate some people strongly but they dont sedate others much at all, so you will need to see how much if any sedation you get from it

ativan sedates everyone, but the amount of sedation varies a lot

with all calming meds, the placebo effect is strong for a while too "

" Antihistamines are very sedating, but should not be taken with SSRI's.

Not to scare anyone, but they can be very addictive. I was addicted to sudafed and the stronger antihistamines as a child for a good 5 years because I was self-medicating myself. Then again, I believe they have taken out the ephedrine that used to be in such antihistamines, so they are less dangerous then they used to be. Still not something to play around with without a doctors orders. "

" For me, I took high doses of antihistimines to calm myself down before in the past. It did work to an extent. God, when I was in the hospital before for a migrane, they thought allergies were causing it, and gave me an antihistimine in an iv and I had a panic attack. Scarred me for life. "

" antihistamines are often abused for a woozy drunk type feeling but the effect varies a lot from person to person
ativan, a valium type med is more reliable

antihistamine travel sickness pills usually calm you, BTW, and may be available OTC "

" They gave my Hydroxyzine. It pissed me off because you know what it is? Just fuckin Zyrtec or Dramamine 2. I could go to the store and get that shit myself.
It's what doctors give out if the don't have the balls to deal you some REAL medication. And so you end up with a bunch of nasty side effects.
Also it just made my chest pains worse. Antihistamines clamp your veins down and raise your blood pressure. Real smart to give that to a patient coming in complaining of panic attack chest pains. "
