Advice:
How can I go to school with panicky feelings?

So here is my problem, I just started school after being out of school for a few years now. I find myself not being able to sit through an entire class without a horrible feeling of constant panic. A few days ago, the panicky feelings got so bad that I left class twice and did not come back the 2nd time, and embarrased myself in front of the entire class.
I have been avoiding going to any of my classes now and my grades will suffer. I know a lot is mind over matter, but once I get in that state, I can't get out of it. I'm not sure what causes the panic, being around a lot of people in a closed room, or something else.
Please help with any advice, I am not on any meds and this is new for me, because I never had a problem with school or being around a lot of people. Sorry so long, but I'm frustrated that I will never be able to finish school and get on with my life!!

" I'd really consider meds. I'm on Buspirone (Buspar) and, although it's hard on me, it does make a difference. I couldn't even begin to imagine attempting to live life without the meds, but it has been hard for me to accept that I do need them. I'm older (just turned 47) and was dealing with school too - interestingly, I did o.k. sometimes because it's a somewhat anonymous, autonomous situation. It's when I'm around my trigger problem and/or people I know that I have the most trouble. Good luck... "

" Sorry to hear that you going thru this while trying to finish school. Meds do help greatly,,but there are a few other things that maybe you can try. A few things I learned as an out patient. Pick up some Chamomile Tea,,,you can find it just about anywhere...Drink a cup of Hot tea before school,,and if you can, drink one during the day while at school. Then before bedtime drink another cup. I Never in my life thought that I'd be drinking hot tea,,and I never thought that something so simple would work,,but it really does.It does calm you down...Also,,if you can,,,buy some Lavender or Ginger body spray,,and spray it on you before school and whenever you start to feel panicy....Something soothing to our senses really helps in calming us down. I do wish you the best and do keep us informed on how your doing. "
