Advice:
Having a very rough time today

I've been having anxiety all day....feeling very restless and edgy. I've already had an attack earlier and I'm more prone to them in the evenings. I'm kinda scared about them since lately they're almost overpowering. I can't seem to slow my heart down no matter how often I try breathing exercises today.

" Sorry for this patch of roughness you're having--can so relate because of times I've been there too.

This probably is the time to get something to stop the attack flow. I like to use breath only as well, but when these things get the better of me, sometimes I take a 1/4 to 1/2 dose of xanax 0.5 mg. That way, I use just a little but if I need more after a while I can add in to make up the whole 0.5 mg dose. You can, as Harry suggests, also go to the ER and get an injection if it's really debilitating.

My primary care doctor, who is an osteopath and does cranio sacral treatments on me (VERY helpful for me) suggested to look at anxiety as a kind of hypersensitivity to things (normal physiology, environment, food, etc) and observe the reaction. From reframing to hypersensitivity, I'm no longer looking at the anxiety as this thing that controls me, but that because I am "wired" more sensitively, I'm only reacting normally to my surroundings. In this place, I can acknowledge that the "reaction" will naturally go away. Interestingly, when I've unplugged the power from anxiety, then I'm just sitting here waiting patiently for my mind to get over itself and allow the body to return to calm. In this place, the breath work (paced breathing 4/6, pursed lip breathing, or simple breath awareness in the moment) can work to let my body know all is well in my world.

I hope this helps a bit. It works for me. We all have to find the things that work in our particular moments. "
