I don;t know what to do when I am having a panic attack, I constantly keep thinking about having another one and live in a constant state of fear monitoring my body and waiting for a symptom of anxiety to occur.

For me this has worked....my sister's "bible", "Hope and help for your nerves", Claire Weeks. it preaches Acceptance, and going thru the storm. It is sooo tough, and takes a long time, and a lot of work. A LOT. Letting the panic come, instead of fighting it, and eventually you no longer fear it, because it is not a threat, but becomes part of you. it is sooo tough, when your body and mind have the normal reaction of fearing this, and fighting it. My dr preaches this as well. Meds only do part of it, but the rest is homework. Tough tough. I used to hide this, and be embarassed, but now, I'm completely open, telling anyone that wants to know, in the workplace, everywhere...that makes me feel betta...and having a sense of humour about it as well. Good luck~

Rae's got some great advice. I downloaded an eBook the other day on coping with panic attacks. The guy's advice was, like Rae said, accepting what's happening to you and realizing that NO ONE HAS EVER DIED FROM A PANIC ATTACK. No matter how much you feel like you're losing it, gonna have a heart attack, gonna die, etc...you wont. Although the short-term symptoms are awful, it will pass. Most of the time, any given panic attack will last less than 20 minutes. If you can keep reassuring yourself you'll be fine, it makes it easier to come out the other side. I realize this is much easier said than done, but the 'going with the flow' technique has seemed to help me quite a bit. Best of luck to you :D

If your college has a health center, then I would go there and get some help. This is very difficult to manage on your own. You might need medication and therapy to help you. Not everyone can get all they need out of a book. The Weekes book is a good one, but some people need a therapist and a doctor too.

nothing has helped me more then learning NOT to fight, run away & resist the feelings, rather try to accept them and let them float over you and pass.
Claire weekes book Is good for this and also another good book to teach you to do this is "a life at last" by paul david. helped me ALOT!

I highly recommend the easy calm videos posted in the Recommendations section of the anxiety forum to learn how to let these feelings pass through you.
You are a product of nature. Almost every thing on this earth follows the same general "go with the flow" rules except people. You see trees bend in the wind, but people are strong and resist change. I found that when I began to allow panic/anxiety to wind it's way through me, it passed much more quickly, and came on much less frequently. I still feel anxious but instead of worrying about the next panic attack 99% of my waking life I maybe think about it 10% of the time. I don't consider myself cured from it, but it's far more liveable this way. I was able to get a job, and live more or less a normal life. Now I'm just trying to get over the hump of the final acceptance of that I might not ever be 100% normal the way I use to feel. Anyway, give the videos a shot. You might surprise yourself at how quickly you'll begin to feel better.

thank you all for your advice! I was getting much better and then just yesterday I was in my friend's apartment meeting her friends for the first time and got pretty nervous...then all of a sudden I had an electric shock pain my my heart area and have been super anxious ever since :(
I just keep constantly keep focusing on my heart now and waiting for the apin to occur again...I got an ekg about 2 months ago and everything was normal, but I feel like I am still convinced that I have something wrong with me...however I realize when I am not anxious I am not focused on it so maybe it is anxiety.
