My husband had his surgery yesterday. The surgeon removed part of the pancreas and the spleen. The surgery took almost 5 hours and my husband is in terrible pain. He has a tube in his nose keeping his stomach clear of acid, a huge iv in his neck etc... He is my first and foremost concern but things went as expected and he needs to heal. Today I get a phone call that his disability was turned down the second time! I just don't know what to do. Apparently one of his dr.'s isn't agreeing or something and ruining it for us. He cannot work in the condition he was in and we don't know now until he heals, which will take months. How can they do this to hard working decent people? What are we supposed to do? We will lose our home and everything else we have. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice? I know I have to appeal again but this time I am alone in doing all this and I really don't know what I'll do. I can't burden him with this now. We are in Florida, even had our congressman helping - lot of good that did. I would appreciate any guidance or advice at all, I am lost right now.
thank you

" Hi, When my twin sister had her Whipple surgery in Oct 0/7 she applied for short term disability. It took 9 months of fighting to get it. They would not allow us to apply for long term disability as they knew she would probably be back on her feet in less than 6 months. I took 5 weeks off work to care for her at home. She came home with tubes all over. She then took 6 months of chemo and then went on a trial. She was able to get back some of her income but by then she was back to work part time. I guess what I am telling you is to appeal again. I know it sounds terrible but you must do this. Do you have someone at the hospital in insurance or a case worker that can help you. Ask to talk to the social worker ... maybe there is someone who can help you and guide you along the way. Best to you and I wish your husband a speedy recovery. It will take time but all should be well after this surgery. It appears to be a long haul and somedays it was but my sister is doing great and is now back to work full time at the middle school. Praying for you,
Pat "

" Find the best social security lawyer in your town and talk to him. They don't normally take a fee until or if they win your case. And now is the time to get them. I worked for a SS lawyer here in my town and the best time to get an attorney is when the appeal has been denied. They will do all the work for you and hopefully you can get what you deserve!

I hope this helps. Let us know how he recuperates. "

" I am sorry all this is happening at once to you and your husband. My prayers are with you. I think it is time to get a lawyer who specializes in Disability. I think it is horrible how good hard working people have to go through all this pain and suffering when others seem to be able to get it with no problems. I will be praying for you . Nancy H "

" Thank you all and yes I am trying to find a good lawyer. Problem is my husband hired a 'representative' to help him in the beginning. She hasn't done a thing, I'm afraid we'll have to pay her to get rid of her. It is terrible - so many people rip off everyone and we can't get a break. My husband is doing pretty good, up and walking today, eating mushy diet and may come home in 2 or 3 days. "
