detecting early pancreatitis

Hi Everyone,

I just had an exploratory ERCP and everything looks good. I had pancreatic surgery last year, but everything from the surgery looks good, no duct blockage, or problems that showed up on the MRCP. I am still having a few symptoms though and still not sure if it is my pancreas. Has anyone had symptoms of chronic pancreatitis, but nothing showed up on ERCP, MRCP, or any other tests? My symptoms still seem to come on at night.....abdominal pain and night sweats.....and occasionally continue into the day. Any similar cases?

Thanks!!!!!!

" Hi Sara10, I am two years and one month from my Whipple surgery, and I still get pain, I am on a fentanyl 25 patch which I wear every day, the patch needs to be changed every 72 hours. I still have bad abdominal pain at night that it wakes me up but not as frequent as it was. The night sweats that you are talking about I get almost everyday, I think I get them just as I am having an attack. What kind of surgery did you have? Hoping you will be feeling better soon. " Hi Nancy,
Thanks for your email. I had a Frey procedure in Sept. of 08. It is similar to a Puestow procedure, but they also took out about 5-10% of the head of my pancreas. I am much better! About a month and a half after the surgery though, I started getting regular night sweats. I used to get these before my procedure when I felt an attack coming on, but not as often. I had pancreas divisum, which lead to my chronic pancreatitis. Why did you need a Whipple? So, I had an ERCP and MRCP and everything looks great, but I still have some occasional pain and night sweats. I don't know if it's my pancreas or something else. I don't know why pancreatic pain comes on at night?? Thanks for your replies :)

" Hi Sara, I don't know why, but I do know that it happens to me. I had the Whipple (which they took 1/3 of my pancreatitis, 1/3 of my stomach and 1/3 of my small intestine) they did that because they have thought that I the worse cancer their is. But the smears came out ok of cancer but they now call it auto immune chronic pancreatitis. At first I thought I was waking up in pain because of the surgery now I know it is because of the pancreas. Are you eating a low fat diet? that might help. Have to go for now. talk later. Nancy H "
